STABILIZATION MALFUNCTIONING - MOTION BLUR - HELP

[ New ]

My Gopro 9 don't stabilize well because it makes motion blur in broad daylight, a lot of people is complaining about the same exact problem, even Gopro 8 users say Gopro 9 stabilization is clearly malfunctioning.

Here's my problem in video: https://youtu.be/MCWWVYlThJ0

I've tried to capture as obvious as I could but in this video is not even close when the malfunction stabilization gets totally bad.

Of all the issues Gopro 9 have this is probably the easiest to fix: Auto shutter speed lowers below the minimum for decent stabilization so limiting auto shutter speed when stabilization is "on" would secure normal stabilization.

@GoPro please con you do something about it?

Solved! I've made an explanatory test of the minimum auto shutter speed: https://youtu.be/xC8KJdHjUNg

I feel like GoPro Labs should be getting more visibility, It's unlocking the true potential of GoPros, I may do a more practical video tutorial in the future when my problems with audio hardware are solved.

Thank you GoPro Labs!

I'm in firmware version 1.5 and I've already installed manually several times.

thanks for answer , will try that lab, need to read about it first as I dont know nothing about it. Just contacted gopro and due to guy from the chat he dosnt see the problem :) I checked those clips on 2 laptops , My PC (ryzen 3700x , gpu 1660 , so it cannot be due to pc) and 4k tv. and also sent it to my bro that has more powerfull PC and he can also see it. I was on snowboard trip and recorded all clips in 4k 60 fps and mine protune setting at most of them looks fine .Did you try this fix with 25 fps ? as with 50 or more I cannot see huge issues but 25 fps picture is having some kind of lag , I cant name it exaclty it looks like I woud recorded it in 20 fps :) just not too smooth and when I set it up to 50fps it looks much better but sometime I can see stabilization floating like. I stop movement but camera still in move and then it cut the movement. Hope that they will do something about it as the picture quality in sun is just stunning.

Re: STABILIZATION MALFUNCTIONING - MOTION BLUR - HELP

Oh okay, that is simply the automatic shutter speeds exposure is too long because it detects that needs more light. These cameras don't have mechanical aperture so they fasten or shorten the exposures speed (called "shutter speed") depending of light intensity or the lack off.

Normally Auto ISO would compensate for that need of light but I limit the ISO to maximum 100 (I rather not use noise reduction in post) then whenever is too dark camera wants to take more light and gets it making longer exposures ( I don't think it goes below the actual value of the frame rate).

That's why this fix of GoPro Labs it allows to set a minimum shutter speed so that image is not blurry when stabilization counteracts the movement.

Actually motion blur is very cool to create a speed effect but it doesn't work well with digital stabilization in cinema they use mechanical stabilizers like gymbals and stuff.

Also play with EV comp (exposure compensation) the lower the values the darker the automatic exposure and less demanding of light auto shutter speed and auto ISO will be.

Labs Instructions: you download it and manually install it to GoPro, go to that webpage and search for that specific hack and scan the resulting code.

Note: for every fps setting that you are using the shutter angle(the old school of measurement for shutter speed) will be different; to calculate that go to this web: https://super8arena.com/shutter_speed.php and fill the left column with the data: ex. put a shutter angle and the actual frames x second that you're going to use and hit calculate to know which shutter speed value you'll limit the gopro. For sport a 200th of a second is acceptable for just holding handheld the camera in fix position a 100th of second is okay.

Tip: to reset the Gopro to erase all Labs modifications scan this code [attach image]
