SD card ERROR Hero 5 Black

I bought a Hero 5 Black and when I put the 32GB Sd card on it, I ordered to record video and the message (Sd Card ERROR) appears, what can I do to solve this situation?

 

Usually the problem occurs when I send record in 2,7K or 4K, but this is always with the error.

@spiryriver70022 - There are a couple of reasons for an SD error. Typically, confirming that the SD card is firmly in place will address the issue. If that's not the issue, reformatting the card can clear up the issue in some cases. If those two steps don't correct the issue, you'll want to make sure the card you're using is one of our recommended cards and is able to write data at fast enough speeds for the camera to work.

Hope you can help but I have this issue with a newly purchased Hero5 Black. I have a SanDisk Extreme 64Mb card. The camera records about 9s of video before failing on card error. I've tried re-inserting the card, reformatting the card and restoring default settings on the camera but the problem still persists. If I switch off the camera, on restart it comes up with a message 'repairing file' which it does, then makes it available to view. This error is even occurring at 1080/30fps resolution to it can't be the write speed as the card is supposed to be good for 90Mb/s

Hi Jeff,

I tried the steps outlined in your link and thought it had worked as I managed to record a 45s clip in 4K @ 30fps but then the card error came up again. Revisited the GoPro site and followed the further advice about removing battery, checking the card is inserted ok then reformatting again and this time on restart I have managed a 1m:35s clip that has saved and stored in full. Not sure this is a fix and won't be happy until I can consistently record and save without further issues. To date the camera/card has failed more times than it has worked so far too temperamental for my liking. If I have further problems I will contact GoPro via the Support link you provided. Many thanks for your earlier reply and advice.

Update. I am still having problems with my Hero5 Black using a Sandisk Extreme card with repeated failures (card errors). After following advice on here and on the GoPro Support site, just when I thought the problem was fixed, the camera started to play up again yesterday with the same fault. I contacted the GoPro Support Team as suggested but no response to date so I've now bitten the bullet and forked out for a Lexar1000x Professional card in the hope that this solves the problem as this card seems to have good reports on this and other forums (it is also one of the other "recommended cards" on the GoPro website but then so was the Sandisk Extreme).

 

Unfortunately time is not on my side as the camera was intended to be an early birthday present for my son who is venturing out to New Zealand for six months at the end of next week. If the Lexar card doesn't work - or give me any confidence that it will be reliable - the camera is going to be returned and I will review whether to invest in another GoPro if or when they manage to fix the problem in the future. Clearly the camera has been released without proper bench testing or de-bugging and to promote the Sandisk cards as compatible (if this is the problem) is not doing GoPro's credibility any good at all. It might be a good idea in the interim for GoPro to at least remove reference to Sandisk cards from their website and remove them from bundled purchases. Very poor marketing imo and GoPro and Sandisk need to get their act together fast.

Hi,

 

I have similar problems with my brand new Hero 5 Black Go Pro and the Sandisk Extreme... I tried a memory card from a friend and it worked perfectly so now as a solution I will buy a second card to see if it solves my issue.

The Sandisk should definitely be removed from the list of suggested cards!

as with the others here, my hero 5 black also does this. it sometimes comes good after removing and re insterting the battery and SD card a few times.

Really feels like an unfinished product.
I havent manage to loose any files from the gopro when it errors out, however its very annoying
