My GoPro Session 5 got in a (probably) software loop, whenever I insert an SD card, I get an "SD error" message, with a question to "Format SD?". Whenever I choose yes or no, the camera freezes.
The microSD cards are:
- brand new one: SanDisk Extreme UHS-I U3 32GB
- one which already worked before with the camera: Samsung Pro UHS-I U3 32GB
The cards have been tried on other equipments, they work well.
So, I tried to do a firmware update, and this is where it gets tricky.
There are 3 ways to update a Session 5 camera, tried all of them, but no success:
1. With the Quik desktop app for windows, the camera settings says: "Version unknown (UP TO DATE)"
2. Wirelessly with GoPro App: The App cannot connect to the camera, the wifi network of the camera cannot be seen.
3. Manually, when I copy the UPDATE file on the different SD cards and insert them, nothing happens, if I turn the camera on again: "SD Error"
I just bought the camera 1 year ago, would be really happy if it would still work. I have tried all the ways to do a firmwate update many times, still no luck.
Once, after the "SD error" started, the camera could record 1 video perfectly, and then went back into the loop again, that is why I am guessing, the problem is not with the harware.
Please help, I am getting hopelessly dissapointed.

Be sure to run a FULL format of the SD card (not quick) prior to placing the UPDATE folder on the card. Before inserting the card into the camera, go into the menu (press the rear mode button) and cycle to EXIT. When you get to EXIT, press and hold down the top shutter button until Factory Reset appears. Perform the factory reset.
After the reset, power on the camera and then hold down the rear Mode button to perform a soft reset. Once done, power off the camera and then insert the SD card. Wait about 30 seconds. After waiting, press the rear mode button to power on the camera. If all goes well, it should complete the update process.

Thank you for your answer Daniel!
Yes, I thought of factory reset before, the problem is, if I go to the menu (pressing rear mode button), I only have the following menu items:
- NO SD CARD
- TURN OFF CAMERA
- CAMERA SETTINGS
- STABILIZE VIDEO
- VOICE CONTROL
- CONNECTION SETTINGS
- DELETE FILES
And this is all, I don't have "EXIT" menu item.
What should I try?

If you purchased from a local store, you should take it back for an exchange.
Sorry your having these issues. It's a great camera (once you get a good one 😉)

Thanks for your help again, Daniel.
The chat is for GoPro Care and GoPro Plus customers only...
I called the Singaporian GoPro Support number.
So, the trick was with the manual update:
When you download the UPDATE.zip file, it contains the 3 files, which need to be placed in an UPDATE folder on the formatted SD card.
I did that exactly like 10 times before, it never worked BECAUSE:
I extracted directly to a Folder (named UPDATE) with WinRar. Now I just created a folder named UPDATE to the SD card, and copied the 3 files in it. I don't know why, but that made the difference, it worked, the firmware updated, SD error issue solved. :)
P.S. Yes I know it's an amazing camera, have been using for a year already.
