Ridges on battery for Hero 7 Black

I have just purchased my first gopro (hero7 black) and also the dual battery charger. My two batteries have different shapes. One is completely smooth and the other one has places on the top and bottom that stick out slightly. It's almost like ridges on the top and bottom of the battery. Is this normal? Or do I need to be concerned about the battery with ridges on the top and bottom. Thanks!

It's normal. One battery is made in China and the other in Vietnam. The one with the creases is actually the better of the two, but both are fine.

The camera will get hot when used, especially around the lens and also when using high resolution/frame rate. The camera is basically a small computer with a sensor and lens in a waterproof housing. The heat sink is in the front of the camera and directs heat out towards the protective lens (although you will feel warmth over the entire camera surface).

Be sure to use a card from this list https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations#list1

Always format the card in camera before the days use and offload your media when you are done.

Periodically perform a FULL format of the card in your computer and do a manual update (followed by a format in the camera and a factory reset).

Turn off Auto Low Light (put camera in 1080p/60fps to turn off.

Set the orientation to either UP or DOWN and only use Auto rotation when absolutely needed (like when you want to shoot horizontally).

Don't store the battery in the camera whenever possible.

Always check your doors and the seals.

Always clean your camera with cool clean water agreed use in water, sand, dirt. Soak in fresh clean water for 20 minutes after use in salt water.

If you follow these tips, you will get long and reliable use from the camera.

Betreff: Ridges on battery for Hero 7 Black

Hallo goprosuzie,

Gruss

Re: Ridges on battery for Hero 7 Black

check the manufacturer if they are   from Vetnam, or China, As GoPro went with the China that people have posted about 100 pages of Battery issue

Re: Ridges on battery for Hero 7 Black

Thanks everybody! You all are correct, one battery is made in China and the other is made in Vietnam. It sounds like maybe the battery from China is not of the same quality, which is too bad. I haven't had my gopro long enough to sufficiently test out both batteries. I was initially just concerned about the difference in shapes.  But knowing that there might be a difference in quality will be helpful too. Thanks for all your help.
