Required Tethering Login for Capture

Okay, I've gone through the channels of sending feedback to GoPro in the following ways. 1) Community Forums, 2) Email Support, 3) Voice Support, 4) Facebook, 5) Twitter, 6) Feedback link, 7) review on the App Store, 8) product reviews where my product was sold, 9) Live Stream Facebook, 10) writing to editors of publications, 11) Writing reviews on news publications, 12) Contacted Consumer Affairs, 13) Joined and contributed to other online communities, 14) made the recommendation to family and friends as well as anyone I know at my college about the issue, 15) created an online petition. I tried to remain positive through numerous scripted responses from email support and facebook.

I got one Hang on tight from GoPro on Facebook before being banned. I waited a week before complaining again.

What do you suggest next? Better Business Bureau?

I bought into the product offerings a year ago that allowed tethering between a GoPro and a smart phone. This solution left me without tethering capabilities when I took a vacation to capture fall color. Great opportunities wasted as I fumbled trying to find a bypass to this new login for Capture. Why in the world should I have to remember more than my camera, memory cards and batteries. I may or may not use the tethering, but it is critical when I need it.

My Camranger for my DSLR doesn't need me to login to their servers to use that tool.

Read the reviews online, we are not happy. Less happy than your investors. You have effectively removed "Pro" from your business. I can no longer rely on my camera working for me.

Why are you trying to bypass the initial login to Capture?

 

If you don't want to, that's fine, but then you are also chosing to not use the app.

 

There was an initial issue where people were being logged off and had to log on a second time after a period of time of inactivity, but a recent update was supposed to have fixed this.

Why should you have to sign on?...It was never a requirement before...besides, what happens if you have no data connection?

Great question. The answer to, "what happens if you have no data connection?".

It still works.

You don't need data connection to connect your camera to the app. I know there were initial issues, but this has been corrected. Put your phone in airplane mode, turn on Wi-Fi and test this. It works. I just did it.

The one time login is because the app is part of a bigger cloud system that connects you to your footage on multiple platforms. It also helps GoPro collect data to improve their software and user experience. There may be other reasons as well, but what does it matter?

You log in once and you're done. The app works after that.

Sorry danielr15 but you are Wrong. When the new Capture app starts you do not get the ability to connect to your camera unless you login and It does need a connection to have the app work. I logged in rode 10 k up the road (that's out of cellular/mobile range) and went to start my camera from my phone suddenly I can't connect to my camera because I'm not logged in. Get back in range and hey presto I can now login and connect to camera. An internet connection of some sort is needed.

That's strange. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S7 and a LG v10.  I'm able to connect to my cameras with both phones even though the v10 doesn't have a data plan.

I'm using the iOS App.  It is strange and that's why people are just a little peaved at and feeling alienated by GoPro in regards to this poorly thought through and dumb  decision.
