One further question as there seems to be an ongoing uncertainty by many, Is it best to leave the battery in when using the powerbank or take it out?
I know that many have posted GoPro chat with techs but I fully believed this service is farmed out to phone jockeys and not true GoPro technical people just like almost all calls or chats. They will error on the side of "No" if it is not in the handbook binder in front of them.

Just a FYI on this.
I used the H7 today on my kayak hooked up to a Anker 38000mah battery bank, it's a big one that puts out 2.0 amps and I have found that when using the external mic adapter and the power bank with the battery and the H7 if recording it will eventually drain the battery and it shuts off even though the bank has plenty of juice left. It took like 4 hours but the battery eventually got down to 2% and it just shut off.
I tested with no battery and that seems to be the way to go, for whatever reason the H7 is not managing the battery properly when a external power supply is used.
It seems that the H7 tries to charge the battery instead of using the external power source and it it never catches up charging it and eventually can't keep up. this is when it's recording, if it's just in standby it's fine.
From now on I will be removing the battery when using the external mic adapter and a power bank.

Thank you for the information. I am struggling to get everything working together - GoPro with external mic and charging through a powerbank. After 40 min motorcycle ride today I also noticed a large drain in battery although I had the powerbank plugged all the time. Now, at home, I tested and it works without the battery so next ride will check if it works during riding as well.
