Problem after problem after problem with the Fusion. NIGHTMARE.

 

 

Never before have I come across a company that makes their customers work so hard to be able just to use their products, Never before have I bought a bit of hardware which is a nightmare just to do the basics, WELCOME the GoPro Fusion.

 

This is my first camera/Gopro and unless this gets sorted it WILL be my last. But wait...I am not someone who has just logged online for the first time? Nor someone who has a very basic understanding of how hardware works? I have 20+ years of online usage and I have been gaming since the 80's but also built many Windows based PCs. So you could say I do have "Some" knowledge of hardwares.

 

These Gopro's are developed I am sure to be difficult to its users, The evidence is on the site, or just google the plethora of people who have had similar issues to me, One of my weaknesses is that I am not very good with cameras, But there is nothing wrong with educating ones self, so I wanted a decent camera for my Youtube Channel and something that everyone "Seemed" to be screaming about...So the Gopro Fusion is what I bought. (Rolls his eyes)

 

Am I on my own when I say these things,

 

1) The app is rubbish and WILL NOT recognise my Fusion and people reported this in 2017 and its STILL happening?? (LRV File list is Empty Error) or when I click on "Browse Camera Media" it scans and then stops after a few seconds and nothing happens? meaning I cant update the camera as well. (Camera has been tried both on or Off)

 

2) The app DOES NOT find any of the footage or files I took today which is on both SD cards (Samsung Extreme 128Gb) and also in two separate folders on my PC (Windows 10). I have tried searching the SD cards and the folders and it just wont find them.

 

I paid good money for this and I so wished I didn’t. The Devs who try to help people on here are using scripts and people are having to go their own ways to solve the problems?

 

This is really not what I expected from this company!

 

My pc spec is ok and I have had no issues what so ever transferring the files from the SD cards to the pc,

i7 8700K (Non OC)

32GB RAM (3200Mhz)

Samsung 970 Pro 1TB C:Drive

RTX 1080OC

 

IT would seem the company (Gopro) has invested ALL its money into making the site look pretty and cutting development of the fusion? Even this site is basic and too orientated around selling us products rather than helping people?

IF anyone can help me with the TWO issues I have above I would be most grateful.

Sorry you're having such a bad experience with your very first GoPro, lets see if we can help you with your issue.

You'll find it's actually quite impossible to update the camera when it's turned off.  I would suggest you register your camera and perform a manual update instead.  You can do so by using the following link: https://gopro.com/en/us/support/product-update/register-camera

This will enable you to perform a manual update of your camera since the mobile app will not perform an update.

You will also need to make sure that the mobile device you're using is actually compatible with your camera.  You can find that list here:

If you are referring to the GoPro Fusion Studio for Windows (app) then you'll find the issue is actually caused by the USB drivers for windows 10.  There is a solution for this already posted here:  https://gopro.com/help/articles/Solutions_Troubleshooting/Camera-is-Not-Recognized-on-GoPro-App-for-...

However since you're obviously well versed in PC hardware, you will also realize that it's better to transfer the files across to the PC using a card reader than try to read them directly off the camera otherwise you'll be halving the speed at which you can work (since two SD cards need to be read at the same time over 1 USB connection).  This is why many tutorials from professional videographers and photographers all recommend working with the files directly off the PC rather than working with them from the camera itself via a USB connection.

Hi guys, Thanks for offering your help! I am sorry for being abrupt on my first post but something needs sorting on this app, I tried what you suggested but I struggled to get the ideas to work? But thanks for the suggestions.


Due to frustration I watched dozens of Videos on Youtube from users and one of them suggested a workaround which I was able to work with and add files, However.

I have another two issues which are new and If you could suggest anything likewise, I would be very grateful,

They are:

1) The app is only picking up the front camera files and the app states Cant render GFO 2*****.JPG.Some files were not imported"?

2) When I render a bit of footage is is anything but 4k which I think (Hopefully) I set it on? the output video footage after render is like 720p and nothing like 4k?

I have both folders (All files) on my desktop (Windows pc) and them all on the two SD cards as well. The app I have setup to read/find the files from the folders on my desktop, Which it is only finding the front ones as I stated.

1) There could be an issue with one of your cards. Perform a FULL (not Quick) format of the card in your computer followed by a format in the camera. Sometimes you will get the "Not Imported" message with some files if they did not close properly or are too small.
2) When exporting you should be using Cineform '422 High' and 5.2K. Remember, the size (4K for example) is regarding the entire 360 video. What you will be viewing, approx 16:9 cut out of the entire video will represent a much lower resolution. 4K is much closer to 720p viewable while 5.2K will be closer to 1080p viewable.

You should be making a folder (on your desktop is fine) first. Name it whatever you want (mine is named Fusion Import). Inside that folder you should place the Front and Back folders from the SD card.

Your computer seems more than capable (I think you meant to write GTX 1080 not RTX, which is an entirely different architecture). Also, your cards are SanDisk Extreme or are Samsung? If Samsung, they don't make an Extreme model, so you need to specify which one you have. I assume you meant SanDisk.

I'm using SanDisk Extreme v30 64 GB cards in my Fusion. While they work perfectly fine, I personally dislike SanDisk and have a long history of telling people to avoid them. The reason is simple. SanDisk cards are inconsistent in quality. I've had plenty that work fine, but also many that have caused me issues. After years of time on this and other camera forums, I've come to realize that my experience with SanDisk cards is not unique. If you continue having issues, consider changing to another brand like the Samsung Plus, Samsung Pro, or Samsung Pro Plus (all quality cards).

Other things to consider:
What resolution/frame rate are you recording in with Fusion?
Is Protune On?
What is your Max ISO?
How good is the lighting?
Are you using the Beta Update? Fusion & Fusion Studio?

The SD cards are brand new and the only files on them are what I took yesterday, the resolution is 4k Or so I thought but after rendering one file of 9 minutes which took an agonising 50 mintues to finish I was shocked that it was in just 720p...So what happened to the 4k?

 

Protune? I dont know about it tbh?

The lighting was fantastic as I was outside and it was sunny.

 

I am using App V1.3 which I belive is Not Alpha but is acting like it.

 

Regards to my PC, I did mean RTX, as thats the latest GDDR6 GPU's, I used to have the old GTX1080 extreme.

Also the CineForm codec was included in the GoPro Studio application I heard? so I would of thought there is no issues there,

The overall process of just wanting to sort a end result out with Gopro is too much and thousands of others have felt the same, As it is now, IF today I cant sort it I am going to ask the retailer for my money back and as I stated above will never buy from this company again as they make their users jump through hoops to do simple things,

So why would you still use their products when there is plenty of other companies like Toshiba,PNY,Samsung,Kingston etc, And if your Sandisc cards are not new, then surely that contradicts your point of them not working?
