Re: Photo time-lapse on the GoPro Hero 7 Silver. Likely addition?
[ New ]The HERO (2018) used the same components as the HERO5 Black, which is what led to people hacking it. Maybe when the HERO8 cameras come out you might be able to do something with the HERO7, or maybe put the HERO7 Silver firmware in a HERO8 White (if they make one and it uses the same components). But, there is no similarity or hope of doing something like was done with the HERO5/HERO (2018).
Next time, just read the tech specs more carefully before purchasing your next electronic device.

[ New ]A better example would be a car manufacturer selling you a car with a sunroof while leaving out the software to operate it.

Re: Photo time-lapse on the GoPro Hero 7 Silver. Likely addition?
[ New ]No, because the HERO7 Silver doesn't do time lapse photo. If it did, and you could change to this mode, but where unable to press record, then your analogy would be similar.
However, the HERO7 Silver does not have time lapse photo "installed" (just like my car doesn't have a sunroof installed).
I'm glad you agree that it was your responsibility to read the tech specs before purchasing, but with that being understood, what is this whole thread and our going back and forth all about?
Yes, GoPro released three cameras, all with different capabilities.
Yes, the pricing structure and features were designed to encourage the purchase of the higher end model.
Yes, while the HERO7 Silver and White do have better stabilization, and videos do look better straight out of the camera, they were not marketed or meant to be upgrades to the HERO5 Black and most certainly not an upgrade to the HERO6 Black. The upgraded BLACK model was/is the HERO7 Black.
Yes, the HERO7 White/Silver are designed for simplicity and first time GoPro camera buyers. Adding features or more options like time lapse photo that is not automatically converted into a video goes against the design philosophy of these two camera models.
Yes, you are welcome to want or wish for more options, but if they were important to you, you also had/have the option of purchasing the feature rich Black model.

Re: Photo time-lapse on the GoPro Hero 7 Silver. Likely addition?
[ New ]The point of this thread and the comments by myself and others is a criticism of GoPro's marketing and decision making on pricing and product differentiation.
I think my comment on the sunroof still stands. They included the hardware that would support time-lapse photo, but did not add the software to make it a reality. Companies limit access to software features all the time for product differentiation, I get that, but it's less common in hardware. I just disagree with their decision making on this particular feature and think it's absolutely fair game to start a thread on it and see what others think.
For the reasons I stated earlier, I think this should be a standard feature on the mid-priced GoPro that GoPro sells for $449.95 AUD. I hope others feel the same and make it clear a firmware update would be much appreciated to include this feature. If the earlier GoPro support team answer was anything to go by, they have passed this onto the team.
