Overheating

My Go Pro 7 hero Black overheats when in the underwater housing and out of the housing.  I am using the preferred SanDisk Ultra card for the camera.  The housing is the GoPro Super Suit.  Firmware/software is up to date. Temperature from an ambient source is anywhere from 70-85 degrees and water temp is 80 degrees.  Camera shuts off and is not usable until it cools off.

Re: Overheating

Try trading up to a Sandisk Ultra UHS-III microSDXC card.  Most of them are UHS-I, you have to look for the UHS-III.  <NERD ALERT>It will take the heat down a few degrees because teh UHS-III cards have a wider data bus so the CPU is not having to spend extra cycles buffering for the slower card.</NERD ALERT>

Re: Overheating

Sell/give back the scrap metal and buy yourself something else.
Don't expect gopro to solve this problem.

Re: Overheating

SanDisk Ultra are NOT preferred. Some people have reported that the camera runs cooler with the Samsung Evo Select. If you want to stick with SanDisk, you need the Extreme, Extreme Plus, or Extreme Pro.

Again, DO NOT USE SanDisk ULTRA

Re: Overheating

Yeah, I cant speak to that as I havent had problems with any of them, though the Samsung Evo is pretty sweet.  The important thing is the UHS rating, UHS-III regardless which make/model you go with.

Re: Overheating

@extremelyfrank has some good info, but just for clarification, you would need to get an Evo PLUS (Not Evo or Evo+) or Samsung Select (Amazon branded Evo PLUS). I'm not sure about the HERO7 Black, but previous cameras have all used a UHS-I Bus. UHS-III is backwards compatible and will mean your using a newer card, so it certainly isn't going to hurt to get one.

Re: Overheating

There is One card in here that you will not want to use.   Ths sounds like Buffering and maybe   over heating.  heck time for  a review if I had a Ultra I got one so stay tuned.

Re: Overheating

It's not that Ultra won't work, but rather that they have a higher failure rate and are known to cause issues. The recommended SD card list is not an end all be all list. It does, however, assist in trouble shooting as they are tested and known to work. Plenty of people have used Ultra over the years with no issues, but over that same span of time an overwhelming number of reported issues have been traced to that model of SD card.

It's also important to remember that just because a card is "tested" and "recommended" that does not guarantee that the particular card you got is error free. I currently have five SanDisk Extreme v30 cards. Four of them work great. The fifth, sporadically gives me issues. It took me awhile to identify that it was just with that particular card, but know that I'm no longer using it, I have no camera issues (BTW, I used the card again on Saturday just to verify what I've been saying and sure enough I got freezing, "repairing file", camera getting very hot, fast battery drain, and once the message that the card needed to be formatted. Switched out the card and camera went back to normal).
