No Files to Import

I got my Hero5 yesterday.  Took some videos and tried importing them with the USB cable into my Mac using GoPro app.  Received message that there are no files to import.  After googling, thinks the problem is with the USB cable although it allows me to charge the camera ok.

So finally, I took out the SD card and with a card adaptor plugged it into the Mac.  Again, GoPro app says no files to import - even though it clearly shows that the SD card has some space used.  This time I took a picture of the screen.  So it looks like the problem is NOT the USB cable, nor is the SD card (as I can read the contents in the camera).  So how can I import my files from the SD card?

Thanks.

Re: No Files to Import

I see you keep referencing the GoPro App, is this what you are still using or have you updated to the newest version called Quik. If still the old App, try the new one and see what happens...

Re: No Files to Import

Does your MAC meet these requirements?

Mac OS 10.10.X or later

Intel® Dual Core™
Recommended: Intel Quad Core i7 or better

Any graphics card shipped with Intel® Dual Core™ Macs or better
Recommended for 4K editing and playback: Intel HD Graphics 4000 or better
Recommended Video RAM: 512 MB RAM or greater for video playback under 4K, 1GB RAM or greater for 4K playback

Screen Resolution: 1280 x 720

RAM: 4GB

5400 RPM internal drive
Recommended: 7200 RPM drive or SSD
If external, use Thunderbolt, Firewire or USB 3.0

If it does not meet these requirements then your MAC is not compatable with the GoPro Quick Desktop APP

Re: No Files to Import

I think that if he was able to install the app on his Mac in the first place, it means that it's compatible.
The compatibility won't stop just for the "import files" feature :)

Re: No Files to Import

True it may meet the minimum requirements for the installation. But if the video format that he recorded in does not meet the minimum requirements, then the MAC will not be able to see or read the files. Had the same issue with iphone 6 plus, I could not view or edit videos taken in 4k on the phone. I understand I have just referenced a phone, but the same would apply to a MAC or PC. Since there was little information given, as to what settings he used to record the video, I gave a full reference to the requirements for some of the video playback requirements. I am assuming that the video was recorded in 4K. Thanks for the input on the install of the app, you are right it should have a file check system to ensure it can meet the minimum install requirements to run?

Re: No Files to Import

Even my 8-year old Mac can read 4K videos (though it's not smooth at all :D), so I don't think that's the issue here.

Re: No Files to Import

Just trying to cover all avenues. You might have a 8 year old MAC top tier, they might have a 1 week old, low end MAC. Not a MAC user, build my own Desktops. Just because you don't think it is not an issue does not mean it is not. So let's stop this nonsense and try to provide viable solutions. Like I said I do not know his MAC specs or video recording format.

Let's try another approach, are the files trying to be read through the camera or SD Card Adapter? If through the camera try an adapter. If through a adapter try through the camera or different SD card adapter. If that does not work, then possible try another MAC or PC and see if the files can be seen.....

Let us know what you have tried....

Re: No Files to Import

I responded in another message the following as someone asked me if I tried other tests:

Test 1:

I finally took out the SD card and with the SD card adaptor plugged into the Mac.  The GoPro app still would NOT show any files to import.  I tried GoPro Studio app and I can SUCCESSFULLY see the files and import the files.

Test 2:

I put the SD card back into the camera, reset the connections and tried using the USB cable to the Mac.  The GoPro app still indicating NO files to import.  I jiggled the USB cable a bit and viola! there were files to import.  I clicked import.  The app hung - it stayed trying to import file 138/5000+ for a long time unmoving.  (I had 5000+ files .jpg files because I experimented with Timelapse).

Test 3:

I took a few videos - 1080p, 2.7k, 1440, 4k.  Despite jiggling the USB cable to death, the GoPro app would NOT show any files to import.  I took out the SD card and with the SD card adaptor into the Mac, using the GoPro Studio app, I could import ALL videos - 1080p, 2.7k, 1440, 4k.

Conclusion:

1. The GoPro app is buggy with the import.

2. The USB cable or the USB port on the camera is problematic.

3. My Mac can handle 4k videos.

I guess my workaround is to take out the SD card and use the GoPro Studio app.  But I don't like this approach as I fear frequent removal of the SD card may damage it.  (It happened to the SD card in my BlackVue in-car camera - one day it just jammed on removal).

Based on the above, is my Hero5 USB port problematic?  Or the GoPro app?  Or both?
