New hero 5 black issues: audio & video with still

I just picked up a hero 5 black and finally used it last weekend and noticed two issues while using it riding my dirt bike.  

I did update the firmware to the latest version before using it and used the Quik app to download them to my macbook pro.

 

1 - I have the audio setting on automatic where the cam decides what to do.  I had one clip where the audio was muted then then kicks in.  It has nothing to do with the player (Quik app, quicktime, VLC..).  All of the other clips were fine.

 

What would be the best setting for this, just lock it to "wind only"?? 

 

 

2 - I set the default setting to be video with still frames every minute (1080p@6fps with stills at 60sec).  

There was one folder called "time lapse" and it had one grainy picture in it.  Since this is new to me I'm guessing that maybe I mistakenly changed the mode but I did shut the cam off and it should have gone to the default vid with pix that day.

Lastly, I'll say that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, I seemed to know more about the product then the out-sourced tech and to make it worse they had a very heavy accent and was having a hard time understanding English.....maybe I should have called the number for Great Britain.

CS is passing themselves as technical support, and they are not I jsut dealt for a full month and  the CS person is now passing me on, and that is like 20 letters.  takes her 3 days to answer me each time!

 

  Not sure why it makes a timelapse  fileFolder?

 

But the Manual Wind only is hte  only solution till GoPro.com releases their APril 1st firmware fooling us

Thanks for the info there, I'll set it to wind only.  It only messed up on one vid out of many.

 

What I'm finding odd is if the cam's default setting is vid/photo and you press the shutter button it will only shoot video.  

The only way I can get it to actually function in the default vid/photo mode is to turn it on with the mode button THEN press the shutter button.  To me this completely defeats the purpose of having a default mode and makes it nearly impossible to do that while riding....as it is there's a delay hitting just the shutter button.

It looks like there are only two options that work with the shutter button or as they call it "QUIKCAPTURE".  On page 24 in the manual it shows: "CAPTURING VIDEO WITH QUIKCAPTURE"  and  "CAPTURING TIME LAPSE PHOTOS WITH QUIKCAPTURE", so for me it looks ike I'm SOL for video with photos from that quick feature

GoPro set up an RMA and replaced the camera, very fast turn around, it just arrived today.

I stated in my emails that I wanted a new one and not a refurb (since mine was days old)...I guess there's no way to confirm that but it looks new.  

Hoping to get out this weekend to test it out.

It looks like they might have sent me a refurbished camera because the replacement has a lower serial number than the one that I paid full price for.  At this point I would have preferred to get my money back and either buy a 4 or wait for the bugs to be worked out of the 5.

I tell people  return wherre purchased before it expires, then reach out to gopro after  return expire.   refurb they must  mark it  and say so.  guess not!

Good point on returning wfrom the seller, I guess now I'm SOL.

 

What next step can I do?  To me it seems like I don't have any options now. Everytimne I emial support I'm getting replies from a different person.

 

The cam looks in good/new shape but the serial number is a lower one than the one I bought, so to me that seems like it would be a refurb.
