This seems to be the fix for most people. It's a windows issue, not GoPro.
You the man, that fixed it, on win 7 x64.

"My fix was:
- connect the camera to my Windows10 PC.
- go into device manager (Windows + X key, then select device manager)
- in "Portable devices", disable the Hero5, and then re-enable it - WELLAH!"

I have tried another fix from Microsoft in the past "cssemerg108018.diagcab" which always used to work. At some stage however it stopped working.
Your suggestion now works every time without failure.
