New Hero4 Black Crashes with 128GB card

Hi,
Just bought a new Hero 4 Black but it keeps crashing every time I start recording. It records a few seconds and then hangs and I have to power off the unit. On restarting it repairs the last video taken. I'm using a new SanDisk Extreme 128GB microSDXC Class 10 U3 V30 A1 SD card as I understood the latest version of the Hero 4 firmware can work with 128GB cards. The GoPro displays that it has firmware v05.00 and the GoPro Quik software claims the unit firmware is up-to-date.
It even crashes when connected to my laptop via USB even though I'm not recording.
I haven't yet tried another SD card but I will try a 64GB card to see if that solves the problem.
Is this card known to be problematic with the unit? It's not in the list of supported cards but I thought SanDisks were always a good choice...
Also, it neglected to replace the USB port/SD card slot cover before filming. Can that cause this problem?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Tried it using a SanDisk Extreme 64GB card today and it still freezes even when doing nothing. Resetting the camera and formatting the card both didn't help. Starting to think there may be a problem with the camera itself...

Hello @epichero67664,
Have you already tried manually updating the camera? This is even if the camera already has the latest firmware version. Camera freezing indicates that the software needs an update, ,or there is an issue with the SD card being used. The 64-GB Sandisk Extreme SD card that you have used is a recommended one. It would help to further isolate the issue by doing a manual update. You can follow instructions on this page for guide.
If such steps still do not resolve the issue, our team at https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs will be able to help further.
Best regards,
Marius

Hello Marius,
Just tried a manual update but after copying the update files to the root folder of the card the camera does not begin the update procedure. It just starts up normally. Can it be because the camera software is already up-to-date?
I will contact support now.
Thanks

Thanks for giving it a try. Though the camera is up to date, it should still recognize the UPDATE saved on the SD card.
If done correctly, it should prompt the update: 1/2 then 2/2 to indicate that it is being completed.
Regards,
Ej

Nope. Just starts up normally even though I put the two .bin files and the hd4_update.txt file in the root of the SD card.

I am not sure why it's not prompting for the update. At this point, we will be referring you to our Support Team for further assistance.
