should not be to hard for people today to figure out how to post, but yet it seems to hard for them to figure out how to actually contact a gopro rep. Most problems on this FORUM is people require others to help ge their answers for them and feed them they will starve in the real world if they Lose theor  mobile devices.

The issue may be the software. If you are using the latest software, you cannot use the quick start button to film and get audio from the mic adapter. You need to start the camera from the rear button then press the start button within a few seconds or it turns off. As many of us use for helmet cams, it’s not possible as the session is in a case and only the record button is accessible. The work around is to use the prior software version to get the mic to work with the one button. If I use bike power, the mic doesn’t work. If I use a battery pack it works fine.

this issue has been around since  2015 and yet no resolution.  two things a new adapter and software or the hero5 session no more working.

Another workaround for us motovloggers is to keep a wifi connection with the app on your cell phone. Once connected, the camera stays on ready to record with a voice command.
