[ New ]GoPro HERO Black 5 purchased November 2016:
Underwater use restricted to heavy rain and fresh water imersion to a depth of no more than 1 metre.
June 2017 camera used in pool - no more than 1 metre
camera begins 'cycling' through functions without user input.
Hard resets performed with some success.
Late July camera used in pool - no more than 50cm
camera issues start again.
powers up without user input.
can only be 'turned off' by removing battery.
when battery inserted camera begins powering up and then 'cycling through random functions.
Hard reset does not solve problem.
Made close visual inspection of camera body and seals.
Find failure of rubber on mode/power button.

[ New ]all sorted...within one hour of posting last message I have a new camera. Returned to retailer, they swapped without quibble.

[ New ]Exact same issue here. Not excessive use, happened with 11 months of limited use. GOpro told me its wear and tear and not covered by warranty. They offered a 40% discount on a new one. In my view this is a product design/failure issue. I suspect more will start to appear over time.

Re: NOTE TO ALL HERO BLACK 5 USERS: MODE/POWER BUTTON FAILURE
[ New ]Good Luck... GoPro would not have a bar of it... its just wear and tear....yeah right ...within 11 months and limited use. Anyway JB Hifi (retailer in Aus) simply looked up on their computer and said yes..we will replace. So mine was sorted. But poor support from Gopro.
PS I think they typed in "power buttton problems" so I suspect there is a database of issues that the retailer is automatically authorised to replace a gopro when it is on the list. So maybe go to retailer and say power button issues.
