My video is smooth inside the phone app, but when saving to my phone or pc it becomes choppy.

Shooting in 4k 30fps and hypersmooth. I can watch the video playback on my phone smoothly no problem. When I save it to my ssd, or any hardrives it becomes choppy on my pc, as well as when I'm saving it to my phone. Also note that the whole video isn't choppy it's just one section.

Below is an example of what it outputs as to my phone, and pc.

Hi @kleytons14517

Please check the following links:

Re: My video is smooth inside the phone app, but when saving to my phone or pc it becomes choppy.

I've reviewed the links you have posted and nothing seems to stick out at me, my pc far exceeds minimum specs required. The video is also on an sdd which will read plenty fast enough. My phone, an iphone x, also meets the requirments so there's no reason that it should be malfuncitioning. It's something to do with the export of the video that is messing up the video.

It wont let me link the video below, perhaps you have an email I can send it to instead.

@kleytons14517, thanks for posting back. I want to verify if you were initially watching the video playback through the GoPro App in your mobile device? If you have the GoPro App v5.2 version, files downloaded to the app from your camera should be stored at their source quality.

Now, if the problem only appears to happen when the video is downloaded from the GoPro App to your mobile device's native Photo app and/or copying the content to your computer, then the video playback issue can possibly be caused by either the devices' compatibility with the video resolution/fps rate, or the video itself, or something during copy/transfer process.

To further isolate this, please check the video file that has been downloaded from the app to your iPhone's native Photo app. When playing back the video, can you see where slow motion has been applied in the timeline above the video preview (see the sample screenshot below)?

If so, drag the slow motion handles together so the entire video plays back at full speed. As far as I know, this is an expected behavior on iPhone devices (5s and above) having a slow motion feature when playing back videos with high fps rate. So far, I've seen this previously on videos with 120fps and above.

As for playing back the video on your computer, do you get the same result when using VLC player?

Additionally, what was the aspect ratio (i.e. 16:9, 4:3) used? If the video was recorded at 4K 30fps (4:3), the file will be saved in HEVC format. Thus, it will require an HEVC-compatible video player and computer (should have HEVC coded for Windows 10 users).

Lastly, try recording a video using the standard 1080P 60fps (16:9) settings. Then download the content to your mobile device and computer. Do you notice the same playback issue? If no, then the problem could be undlying on the high resolution compatibility with the devices.

If none of these have answered the problem, you may upload a sample raw / unedited footage to your Dropbox or Google drive and provide us the shared link via private message so we can test it out on our end and look further into the details here.

I appreciate your time and patience.

Kind Regards,
Ann
