My used GoPro Hero3+ doesn't have a serial number or an SD card. [ New ]

Hi,

I got a used GoPro Hero 3+ camera and the serial number is worn off so I cannot read it. Also, the SD card was not with it. Do I have to have the SD card in it to set it up? Can I just use another SD card?  I am trying to set it up on my iphone with the GoPro app and when I go to choose the camera in wifi, it comes up with the previous owners name.

Not sure what to do or how to set it up. I tried doing the factory reset, but it doesn't help.

Find the number in the version.txt file, located in the MISC folder on any SD card that has been used in the camera.

I got a  new sd card, inserted, did a little video.. then opened it on my laptop. There is no serial number in the version.txt file. Here's what it shows.

It does not show the serial number. And the dates are all from 2013. I want to totally reconfigure the camera with factory settings, but can't. When I go into my wifi on my phone, it still comes up with the previous owners wifi name/info.

Danielr15 is right you can find it in the MISC folder under versiontxt.

Maybe formatting the SD-card an look at it again, I found this.

Latest 3+ firmware and the serial isn't the real one off course ;-)

I reformatted my sd card, then looked at the version.txt file again, and still  no serial number. Here is what it showed.

Thank you for the responses. I tried them and it still would not give me the results I needed. I contacted tech support and they had to reissue me a new serial number, then walked me through downloading and updating my camera using the new serial number. Everything is working great and I am excited to learn all about my new (used) camera.

Thank you. The encouragement and support I have received here has been fantastic! I'm looking forward to taking my GoPro to Hawaii in Feb. I have my waterproof case for snorkeling. I'm going to get a short, floating hand grip for underwater videoing. Can't wait.
