My new GoPro Hero 6 keeps turning off the video recording automatcially

Hi GoPro,

 

I just received my brand new GoPro 6 today. After fully charging the battery, installing the memory card (SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC UHS-3), and running the updates, I have strted to play with my new camera. However, every time I try to record a video it automatically stops recording after 10-20 seconds .. and many times it will shoot a "burst" of photos for good measure. Whats it going on? This occurs whether or not it is handheld or on a tripod. Can someone please help me.

That does sound like very odd behavior from the camera. Be sure the SanDisk card you have has v30 printed on the face of the card. Additionally, you can try a full format (not Quick) in your computer. I would also check the SD card integrity and validity. If you have determined that there are no issues with the card, go into preferences and reset your camera to factory defaults. On your computer, download the manual update. https://gopro.com/update/hero6
Extract the UPDATE folder to your computer.
Using a USB adapter insert your SD card into your computer and then format it.
Place the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) onto the SD card and then right click and eject.
Insert the card into your camera and then power on using the side Mode/power button.
Allow the update to complete
Go into preferences and Delete/Format the SD card.
Take two pictures and then test your camera.

If you are still having issues, then you will need to contact the GoPro Support Team.

I have a < 30 day old Hero 6 and have similar issues. Latest firmware, recommended Sandisk Extreme 64GB card.  Just today, I started it recording my son's game, and game back an hour later and there were quantity 6, 27KB files.  The camera has worked a couple of times with similar use, so I know it can work, but most of the time it fails in some way.  Previously, I come back and the clips are 30 seconds long and not an hour.  Very disappointed.

 

Does GoPro read these forums?  If so, what is the recommended course of action?

Thank you Danielr15 ... I appreciate the help.

 

In addition to verifying the card type and formatting the card itself, I was very careful to properly seat the card when I put it back into the camera. I'm not sure which, if any, of these things helped, but the issue seems to have cleared up.

Glad to hear it. Perhaps the card wasn't seated properly. 99% of all issues lead back to the SD card so I'm not surprised to hear that this fixed it. Just wish we knew what step it was that worked.

Thanks.  I did find that post last night and went through the steps to manually (re)install the latest firmware.  We'll see if the behavior improves.  The card is a V30, new from Amazon.

Well, that fix didn't work. (To recap,  I have the recommended SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB V30 card, and I did the manual full re-format on the PC, then the manual firmware update process, then the reformat of the card in the camera.)  The camera still stops recording all by itslef randomly.  This makes it useless for a "set-and-forget" recording session (baseball game -hooked to fence). Very frustrating.  What should I do, GoPro?  Do you have a recommendation for testing the card?  I don't really want to shell out for another card if it is not the problem.

Once you've tried the trouble shooting steps here, your next step is to contact the GoPro Support Team. Have your camera serial number and proof of purchase handy.
