My camera is freezing

Bought my camera five hours ago. Charged it. Put in the SD card. Updated the firmware.

Now it's frozen solid.

How do I restart?

How do I keep it from freezing?

Is there any reason not to return this to Best Buy for a refund? This seems like a real problem.

Re: My camera is freezing

@davidpriceonline, if your camera is currently frozen, try to reset the camera by holding the MODE button at the side of the camera for 10 seconds.

As previously mentioned, freezing issue in a camera is usually an indicator the camera's software needs to be re-updated or there is potentially an issue with the microSD being used. Try removing the SD card and see if the camera still freezes up. If it no longer freezes, then the issue is likely stemming from the SD card.

You can get the full list of microSD cards that are known to work well with GoPro cameras here

It is also advisable to format the SD card before use. (NOTE: Reformatting the SD card will delete all data off of the card, so be sure that you save any videos or pictures you want to keep on your computer before reformatting the SD card.)

Reinstalling the firmware update of the camera can also help correct any errors with the current software installation. Follow the manual update instructions specified on this article: Software Update Instructions for HERO7 Cameras

Re: My camera is freezing

How do I turn off the camera?

Why do I have to learn this after buying all the stuff? Why was this information about the SD cards boldly displayed with your product?

Now I have a worthless $50 128 gig microSD card.

I've been a GoPro owner for less than have a day, and already I'm grossly underwhelmed.

@davidpriceonline, press and hold the MODE button at the side of the camera for about 3-5 seconds to turn the camera off.
