My Gopro Hero 5 Black removes date and time info from files moved onto computer. Why?

Hello at GoPro Support!

I have bought a GoPro Hero 5 Black a year ago and I use it for motorbiking and scuba-diving.

I am archiving my movie files on external hard-drives. For that purpose I have to move the video files from the SD card in the GoPro camera to my computer and the external hard drive.

Every time I do this the information in the date and time taken column gets replaced by the date and time I have moved the movie files off the SD card. The original date and time taken info disappears.

That is obviously no good.

Is there a fix for this?

Please kindly clarify.

Thanks and regards,

Hi @stoner249

If you check on the File properties, you should see the following:

Created date - the date the file was transferred to your computer.

Modified date - the date it was shot/taken (camera date/time settings).

You may also get the information through Quik for desktop.

Right click on the file, select Get Info.

This will give you the date of the file when it was taken.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!

Re: My Gopro Hero 5 Black removes date and time info from files moved onto computer. Why?

Hi Ej,

Unfortunately all information about when the movie was taken disappears when the files are moved or copied. Only the date created info remains which is in this case the date the file was moved or copied.

I have seen other users commenting on this as well.

This seems to be a simple coding error that occurs on older GoPro models.

Considering the still high price tag of the Gopro Hero 5 Black I would appreciate if you could offer a solution to this issue.

Please let me know how this issue can be solved.

Thanks and regards,

Matthias
