When you say locks up, do you mean freezing or the lock screen is enabled?
If it's freezing may I know the SD card you're using?
You might be using a slow or not recommended SD card.

The camera has the unlock screen on the back, but that doesn't respond. Hitting the power button also does nothing. I have removed the card and held down the power button until it turns off. Then I pull the battery and start it up. It seems to work until the SD card is inserted and even then acts ok up to a point. The two SD cards I have tried areboth SanDisk. #1 is UltraPLUS 32GB MicroSD HD V10 A1 there are a few other markings on this like a 10 in a C and a 1 or something under the V. #2 is 64GB MicroSD XCI with a 1 in a U.

I am having the same issue, with a correct card. Turn on and then it freezes after 7-10 seconds. Tried reformatting disk, tried manual update, it just freezes and I have to take the battery out to shut it off.

Freezing issue in a camera is usually an indicator the camera's software needs to be updated or there is potentially an issue with the microSD being used. Try removing the SD card and see if the camera still freezes up. If it no longer freezes, then the issue is likely stemming from the SD card.
If you've already gone through the suggested troubleshooting steps, and the issue is still not resolved, it is likely that there's a problem with your camera.
