Re: My GoPro Hero 8 keeps 'failing' to update

How are you trying to update?

The best way is with a manual update.

Make sure you are using a SD card from this list https://community.gopro.com/t5/en/SD-Cards-that-Work-with-GoPro-Cameras/ta-p/394308

Go to the Update page and choose your HERO8 camera. https://gopro.com/update
Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
Click "Download Update."
Click "Click here to download firmware."
Once downloaded, Extract (unzip) the UPDATE.zip file. You will get a folder named UPDATE with files inside. Save this to your computer.

Using a USB/SD adapter, insert your SD card into the computer. Perform a FULL Overwrite format using this tool https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

Once the format is complete, copy the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) to the blank SD card

Eject the card and insert into your camera. Power on the camera using the side Mode/Power button and let the update run.

Once completed, power the camera on using the Mode/Power button and go to Preferences>Reset> and format the SD (it's also a good idea, but not required, to factory reset the camera Preferences>Reset>Factory Reset).
