It might be your SD card. 

Please check if your SD card is listed as a recommended brand and model.

Thanks Jay. I’ll check the card but I bought it at the same time and same store as the GoPro. Also, my camera is brand new so I would think the software would be up to date already—no?  Peggy

Got it @hardyflash3750,

Some store offers random SD card brand and model which is not compatible with the camera. 

Also, yes your camera should be updated but updating it manually should fix some issues such as freezing.

Hi Jay. It WAS the wrong mini card. Shocking. I bought it from a very reputable dealer! Anyway we still need to get the new card and test it by hopefully it will work. Thanks.
