Multiple Issues With New Hero Session 5

This is my first GoPro Product and I am experienceing these issues (so far, not impressed at all). Looking for any advice/support/moral guidance before throwing this unreliable piece of junk out the window.

 

1) After setting up and connecting the Capture app on my iPhone 6S w/iOS 10.3.1 Everything works fine.. For a while.. After connecting/reconnecting to the phone 3 or 4 times, the Capture app will lose the ablity to connect again. The only way I have been able to reconnect is to delete the GoPro from Capture, reset everything, re-pair, and start over. Then everything works fine again.. For a while, until it happens again.  I've used the camera in the field a total of about 6 times, and I have lost the ablity to use the Capture App about 4 of those 6 times.

2) USB Connectivity to my Mac has never worked - No applications ever regonize the camera when it's plugged-in. The camera shows the USB icon, but none of my computers (have tried on 2) are able to see it (using Image Capture, Final Cut, Preview, Finder). I am using the (new) cable that came with the (new) camera.

3) All of the support documents I've read for both of these issues suggest manually updatating/reinstalling the firmware.  When I go to the GoPro page to download the update manually I am forced to register the camera - fair enough. After finding a magifying glass because the serial number is so small no human being could possibly read it, I am told by the GoPro registration page that the serial number is invalid - so I can't register the camera, meaning I can't download the update manually. I would love to use the Quick-Desktop software to update the firmware instead, but see item #3

5) Trying to contact GoPro support via chat results in "Sorry, all agents are helping other customers right now. Please try again later."

You need to register the camera to proceed, chances are you have misread the SN.  Make sure that 0's and O's are not mistyped.  I made the same error when I first took the camera out of the box.
