Multiple H7B freeze with multiple different SD cards and firmware versions.

After about 1:30-2 hours on 4k modes (30fps 60fps, stabalization on off etc) the video freezes and audio continues (continues to make files with frozen video). I have tried 64gb sandisks, 128gb sandsiks, a 128gb smasung, all UHS3. With and without external power. This is on 1.0 firmware 1.51 and 1.61, yes manualy updated, yes formatted SD cards, yes I made an offering to the action camera gods and did a boogiewoogie.

Also, it happens regardless of if I cycle the power part way through. So if something is going to happen 1:30 into recording I REALLY want recorded, even if I power it down at 1 hour and power it back up it will still usually freeze shortly after.

This is two seperate H7Bs, I'm glad I bought a second to test which I can simply return before RMAing the first and reciving some refurbished pile of poo for something that is probably a problem with all of them.

hi,

in 1.51 never had this kind of issues.

updated to 1.61 - without formating before the SD card

and I encounter in 2 days, 3 times exactly what you said.

- split video screen

- freeze image

- at the end freeze camera

Plus, the camera was slow responding:

- in menu

- power on/off

- when stop a video recording

- in undestand voice commands

What I did is:

- factory reset on H7 - I did not make the initial setup (language, pair with phone, etc....), power off

- format SD card in the laptop

- copied the UPDATE folder

- made the manual update

- format again the SD card

- went through the initial setings (language, pair with phone...)

the effect is visible:

- camera moves between menus very well

- no more delays in responding to power on/off, to video stop recording

- understands the voice commands better

- I recorded more than 20h of video, all 4K, with and w/o Protune, w and w/o stabilization - no more freeze, no more issues.

give it a try...

---and do not forget the rule of tumb:

- gopro is not good at all in dealing with "holes" in the SD card space

- so do not delete files from SD card

- copy what you need from the card

- and format it before starting a new video session

just me,

robert

Are you saying you do a full format (10+ minutes) every time you remove files? Or a quick format.

hi,

No, by no means.

I was talking about format in the camera menu.

Re: Multiple H7B freeze with multiple different SD cards and firmware versions.

I shoot many clips and longer catptures.

Never a problem.

Listed cards from legit sources, 32/64 gb

All shoots start with an empty/just formatted card.

Just follow a simple process to do your shoots and transfer / backup your files.

Then, process the card so it is ready for the next effort.

Voila.

Don't buy huge cards 128/256 etc and then leave your collection on there, deleting here are there.

The card in the GoPro is for right then captures then you offload.

Hope this is clear, so many fewer headaches.

FYI I did all this and still froze first test at 2h7m.

You're not recording under the same settings as me or for not as long, so I'm not surprised you're not having an isssue.

I yank the battery and use external power for long shoots.

Make sure you know how long recordings operate and how files get written.

I must have .01% the issues some run into many times per hour.

OMG if someone needs to do a firmware update.

Camera down for weeks and 50 posts / threads.

For me, 1-2 mins to get it done and move on.
