Hello, today I discovered terrifious observation: My memory card Transcend Ultimate 633x 32GB U3 (80 MB/s write) is dead. It worked for 4 years wonderfully.
The card behaves like read only. I can read all data from it. But I cannot write to it. Looked carefully for debris around pins. Tested in other camera ( even with with SD adapter in unlocked position camera reports it is write protected), tested in computer with microSD reader and in with internal SD reader and external SD reader. With three different SD adapters.
Card is mounted read only. Cannot edit partition table or format it.
diskpart.exe ; select disk 1; clean ; reports Error with I/O operation.
In gopro also does not work as described below.*
Last operation was before month: I recorded some shots with my Gopro before month. Then left it resting till today. * I turned camera on, took some pics. in playback i saw everywhere Unable to preview, then I opened card in computer and other devices and card was read only. Formatting also pretends it finished, but nothing happends in fact. Also, recording video (for example 5 mins) appears like normal, but then cannot be previewed. It seems that in the GoPro the card is assumed to be unprotected, but all operations silently fail.
Question is: could the camera destroy the card? I am suspicious about that because i have frustrating experience with memory cards stability in GoPro 5 (unexpected freezing after 20-40 secs of recording if some files were deleted, moved, copied onto card with other device before). Why it is working only in read only mode?
It also seems that the camera ignores the read only flag and attempts to write on it, but it is only simulated, nothing is written in fact, nor the card is formatted despite it seems without any signs of failure. (except in the Playback mode, where i still have video of cat and picture of valley and some entries with Unable to preview caption.)
I look for solution. do exists some low level management tools for cards (like flash controllers programmers for flash disks)?
PS: When I switch this message editor from Rich text to HTML, the textarea text is lost. It is sad.
Bottom line: now I have on my microsd card video of garden cat and picture of valley forever.

Your 4 year old memory card is probably starting to suffer from corruption. SD cards only have a finite lifespan.
Try this to see if it will fix your SD card:
- Connect the ”Read Only” storage device such as an SD card, USB, external hard drive to your PC
- Open a Command Prompt by typing: command in the Search tab, click Command Prompt
- Type: diskpart and hit Enter
- Type: list disk and hit Enter
- Type: select disk "0" and hit Enter (0 will be the drive letter of your read-only hard drive/USB/SD card, etc.)
- Type: attributes disk clear readonly and hit Enter
- Type: exit and hit Enter to finish the process

Thanks for useful hint. I already tried it one day after my first post but had not updated it. The command seems finished OK
Disk attributes cleared successfully.
But the card is still read only actually.

There was an issue with another bunch of memory cards that would also switch to "read only" and this couldn't be changed without using a specific piece of software from the company to fix the issue. Unfortunately I cannot remember which company's cards this affected. It's possible your card is damaged beyond repair from use however you can also try using the makers own software to see if it can help:
If not, then at this point I'd just buy a new memory card.
