One more piece of information to help with this problem. I just purchased and tried a new memory card, a SanDisk Extreme Pro 64 GB. Recording my daily commute had the same playback problems as before. I’m anxious to hear the results of your tests to replicate the issue.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was able to test out long recordings (>1 hour long) using a HERO6 Black camera with the following parameters: resolution set at 1080p, 60 fps, FOV Wide, Protune on, video stabilization on, GPS off, Wi-Fi off, screensaver and auto-offset to Never. I was able to playback content on the camera for an hour without any interruption or locking up. Videos recorded using QuikCapture, and another by powering camera on first then doing a recording.
The odd thing is that I am not able to see video files from HERO6 Black on a HERO4 Silver camera. This is the same thing with video files from the HERO4 Silver camera that could not be seen in the HERO6 Black. I saw no issue with photos, all of which can be seen in both cameras. I used a 32-GB Sandisk Extreme microSD card.
The video files from the HERO6 Black camera played fie on a computer as well. I hope this helps with determining whether the HERO6 Black camera can playback long recordings without interruption.
Let me know if you have questions.

I wanted to provide long term testing results of using my hero 6 on my daily bicycle commute regarding this topic. All recordings and tests are at 1080p 60 FPS with image stabilization on. The rest of the camera settings are default. The memory card is a SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB purchased about 6 weeks ago. Recordings average about 55 minutes.
Playback of videos on the camera result in the camera locking up requiring the power button to be pressed for 10 seconds to reset the camera. This has happened for about 25 of the last 30 recordings. Three times the playback worked but returning to the recordings matrix locked up the camera requiring reset. The other two times the playback function worked as expected.
additionally on four occasions when pressing the shutter button to stop recording the camera locked up requiring reset and the videos wouldn’t playback on camera.
As before the videos can be played on a phone or tablet or downloaded to a computer and viewed.
I’m hoping that there is a solution for this issue as I want to be able to use the on camera playback if needed if an incident occurs during my commute.
thanks for your consideration,
