Lightning Conditions

hi All,

i've got a hero 6 Black and was hoping someone could provide tips on what the best settings would be to capture Lightning strikes during thunder storms are? i've seen some really cool pictures of long exposure shots of the strikes and at the very least, it would be nice to see time lapses that i've created.

any optimal settings that people use?

thanks

Re: Lightning Conditions

I did some in Sept 2017 (we don't get much lighning on the central coast of California) with a Hero5 Session.  I can't say for certain, but I believe my settings were:

ISO Max 400

WB Auto

Interval Auto

Shutter 5 Seconds

Re: Lightning Conditions

Hi @aidhagz

Lightning strike is unpredictable but I would suggest to use.

ISO 100 min 400max

WB: Auto

Shutter: 2 or 5 sec

Interval 2 or 5

Regards,

-Jay

Re: Lightning Conditions

This is perfect, thanks for the response! I get the unpredicability of the lightning with distances and such, but it’s be nice to get as much footage as i can. I’m based in the UK and we’re expecting storms soon so wanted the best setup
Thanks Jay

Re: Lightning Conditions

Sure thing @aidhagz

Try to get more shots if possible.

Check also the peak or time where in there's a lot of lightning strike,
