Yeah i'm pretty sure i know what's going on. the first problem is i had the bright idea to purchase an ebay gopro which was advertised as a new model that was originally on display at a retail store. what's weird is when trying to register the gopro the serial number as i found out is for a HERO 2018. However, the camera when connected to my phone via the gopro app is recognized as a Hero 5 black. Even when i tried deleting the app reloading it and selecting a Hero 2018 model as my camera it would not recognize it as a Hero 2018 it also comes up as a Hero 5 black. It's almost like the softwared/firmware for the camera is all Hero 5 black but the physical internals are Hero 2018 and external at least the front face of it, is Hero 5 black. I'm currently working to get my money back from the ebay seller seeing as i just went to use it in the pool with my kids and it stopped working almost immediately. after pulling the battery i could tip the camera upside down and shake the water out of it. it's all good though. i decided to break down and purchase a Hero 7 black anyway. if anyone is reading this and is thinking about purchasing a gopro from ebay that is supposedly a display model, don't get your hopes up too much.
