Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

I had a hero+ lcd and was having an extremely annoying issue where if I recorded a video for example at 12pm my time in Sydney Australia, when I would import it to my PC or my iPhone it would show as it being recorded at 11pm instead which is the GMT +0 time (London). This same thing happens with all videos but NOT photos.

So I went out and bought a hero 7 black thinking the new hardware and software and new SD card would solve the problem but no! Still happens so now my library is all over the place with videos being incorrectly stored in my photo library.

I have read at least 10 other threads where people are having the same issue! And apparently it’s been 4 years and nothing has been done by GoPro to fix the GMT time offset issue when importing.

Is this being actively looked into? Is there a workaround as this issue is driving me crazy and many other GoPro users apparently

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

hi,

yes was reported by admin.

the problem is GoPro has not a timezone in the menu.

so you set a "local" time/date

the video metadata is UTC + local time, and yes the photos have right timestamp.

both PC and iPhone see the same deviation to UTC.

it is a known issue.

now... what I would expect is: the camera has GPS...GPS has time (stratum one rated synchronization source)...why don't GPS read the right time?

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

if you do not care about photo's, to have right video time metadata, the workaround is to set in the camera UTC time, instead of local.

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

But the thing is I do care about photos as I take both videos and photos with my GoPro. So either way my photo library will be over the place whether it be due to videos or photos being mixed up.

Surely this issue should have been fixed by GoPro by now considering some users were experiencing this and reporting this years ago. Even some acknowledgement they are aware of the issue and a fix is on the way would be good enough for me.

yep...same here...

I have luck UTC is local +2h...so they are not so far away in the library...Smiley Frustrated

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

I think I'm understanding this, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

So, to have my video's creation date correctly displayed in my editor (Adobe Premiere Pro), I need to set the camera time to UTC. Then, when I record and import, my computer will add my local time zone to give me the correct creation date?

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

Or is it that no matter what time I put in the camera, it will always be UTC so I just have to do the math and deal with it? I'm actually fine with either, it just means with my other cameras (non-GoPro) I just have to also set them to UTC.

Re: Incorrect time when importing recorded videos on gopro devices

If you change your device time to UTC then your photos will be incorrectly time stamped. The issue is with videos only so unfortunately by fixing your issue with videos just creates a new problem.

Please fix this issue gopro.
