In Car Video - Camera Panning On Its Own?

Hello, new to GoPro (and video in general) and trying to figure out of this is normal. Hero 7 Black with HyperSmooth on - fixed mount that is pretty stable. On sharper turns that produce higher g’s the camera seems to pan in the opposite direction of the turn before recentering itself. Is this due to the stabilization or is there something else that causes it?  Would much rather it stay centered throughout the turn. Hypersmooth seems to work great for this - fairly bumpy track in spots and feel like it did a good job stabilizing it so hopefully this is not a byproduct of it.  Haven’t had a chance to go back to the track yet to try some different options.

Thanks!

Re: In Car Video - Camera Panning On Its Own?

It's the Hypersmooth stabilization attempting to keep the frame centered. I think mounting the camera further forward in the car might help. You can also try applying a slight zoom so the windshield isn't creating such a strong framing. Finally, and I really have no idea if this will have an effect on the hypersmooth or not, but you might want to set the selective light metering to the center of the windshield/camera frame.

This has been reported many times by many people. Some say "it's normal", most say it's a bug and needs to be fixed. I'm one of the latter.

Re: In Car Video - Camera Panning On Its Own?

It's "normal" for the Hypersmooth to be trying to keep the frame "locked" and not moving.

However, we are hoping that GoPro will release a firmware update that allows for more control over stabilization so that a less aggressive stabilization can be an option in all resolutions that currently only have Hypersmooth.
