GoPro has released  a new update to improve SD card stability.  If you haven't already, please do a manual update NOW!  99% of all issues are SD card related. Please, please update your firmware.

For best results:

Format your SD card in your computer microSD-Card-Considerations

Download the manual Update.zip file and extract the Update Folder

Hero5 Black https://gopro.com/update/hero5

Hero5 Session https://gopro.com/update/hero5_session

Place the Update folder (Not Update.zip) on your SD card

Charge your camera

Insert the SD card into your camera 

If the update doesn't start automatically, press the mode (small side button) to turn on your camera

The update should run. The camera will turn off and on during the update so let it sit until its done

When the update is complete, go to your camera settings and delete all/format your SD card

Take two pictures and then two short videos.  If everything works, you're all set.  

Go back into settings and delete all/format to remove your test shots.

Just installed the update on 2 of my 3 Hero5 cameras. Let's see if anything else was included in the update. Are there official release notes anywhere?

Highlights   I seen   issues lately, due to voice comm, or other.

SD card never had an issue

so we concentrated on the important stuff first, and will not see the SOund till later   GoPro you could have at least  noted SOUND IS NEXT!!!!!!!!!!

What a joke!  the camera is riddled with issue and they decided to make a special update about the highlights during a video?? this company is not going well...

I have just updated to 1.57 and it seems like a big mistake!!! I just bought the camera 2 days ago and today I've started playing with it. When I connected the camera with Capture app, it notified me about this update. I did it. First thing, it was giving me an SD error. I formatted the SD card and tried to start the camera again. This time, I had no SD error message, but the LED screen was blank! The camera works, but the LED just does not show anything! 

I tried another SD card to see if the card was the problem, but still the same!

Has anyone else had this problem?

It is the first time I get a gopro and I am about to go on a long trip... so maybe the title of this post should be DO NOT DO IT after all. :(

Try running the manual update https://gopro.com/update/hero5

Also, is your card from this list? https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations

If not I suggest you get one and run the manual update with it.

If yes, reformat your card in your computer and install the manual update.

Yes my card is in that list, I've got the Lexar 633x UHS-I 64GB

Also, I have installed the update manually (more than once just in case) but still the problem remains. The screen lights up but it stays blank (see attachment)

Are there any other options? I've contacted gopro about that, but I have no high hopes that they are going to respond...
