I'm having problems recording wile charging. Hero 7 Black

Hi comunety.
I'm having problems recording wile charging.
I have bought a new joby grip handel that has a built in battery that can be connected to the H.7, this to extend the battery life of the H.7. Now if I try to plug the handol to the G.H.7 filming starts and stops after few seconds.
Is there a settings that I have to tur off or on.
The same grip handel works for my brother's Hero 5
So enny suggestions eny one
Thanks up front

Re: I'm having problems recording wile charging. Hero 7 Black

Are you using the supplied GoPro USB-C cable to connect to the Joby? If not, try that.

There is a new chip on the HERO7 Black that wasn't present on past cameras. This new chip, Pericom PI3USB9281, protects against bad chargers, detecting power, usb pin muxing. While the joby grip handle you are using may work fine on your brother's Hero5, there is most likely an issue with it providing an acceptable current.

The issue you have described is similar to when people use the incorrect USB cable on their HERO7 black. The camera will charge, but upon recording, the camera fail safe kicks in and the camera turns off. Taking out the battery may or may not have an influence on this, so it's certainly worth trying. Also, if you can, be sure to use the USB-C cable provided by GoPro. For more information on the importance of using an appropriate USB-C cable, see this video https://youtu.be/QmgpcG_1cuI

In short, your camera is most likely behaving exactly as designed; however, it's not working as you (or joby) had hoped. It may be possible that GoPro will be able to reduce the sensitivity of the pericom chip in a future firmware update (one is expected this month) that may resolve this issue for you. A change to the power recognition and charging is expected in the update, so you may want to wait for that before returning the joby.

In any case, your camera is probably fine (even if it's not working the way you want). Hopefully you were just using the Joby cable and switching to the GoPro USB-C cable will fix the issue. If not, be sure to run a MANUAL update of the firmware once it's released.

Hi @franciscos11510

Does this happen as soon as you plug the camera to the power source?

What is the software version installed on your camera?

Try taking the battery out and run the camera off of the external power source.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: I'm having problems recording wile charging. Hero 7 Black

Thanks for the great video on USB-C cables. I read in a different forum from a person the actually uses the following cables without problems with his power bank.
