I cannot extract a number of files from my Hero 3+ Silver / possibly corrupt or hidden!

Hi there!

I'm having some trouble importing a large number of files from my GoPro HEro 3+ Silver edition.

I recently went on a USA road trip and took an awful lot of small videos and timelapses. However, upon returning home and plugging my Gopro into my computer, it appears that I can only import a small minority of the files - specifically, all files chronologically from the start of the trip until about day 2. Quik for desktop recognises that the memory card is full up (and is full up with the amount of files I expect to be on there) but will only import that small amount.

The common answer amongst some other threads appears to be that the files that won't show up are corrupted on the memory card, and are therefore no good (which is potentially devastating). However, I've read and heard other discussion that suggests that the files are kind of 'hidden' on the card and can somehow be recovered.

I've tried numerous import methods, including the Quik desktop and iOS apps, i've tried Apple Photos and Apple Image Capture, but with no luck.

I have a 64GB SanDisk Extreme microSD SDXC memory card, and i'm running OSX Sierra with Quik for Desktop.

Any suggestions? These files are very important to me so i'm desperate for a solution. Thanks a lot!

Re: I cannot extract a number of files from my Hero 3+ Silver / possibly corrupt or hidden!

Hi @georgewood92,

I am sorry to hear that you may have some corrupt files. Unfortunately, we do not have any preferred methods of data recovery as this may vary from SD card manufacturers of the preferred methods for recovering your data.

You may be able to find data recovery options to recover the footage, or other users may have found a solution in the past. Definitely do your research on the data recovery software that is best for you as it may require activation of the software and there may be varying costs.

The best thing to do would be to contact SanDisk directly as they might have a better idea of how to recover any files.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Ryan

Re: I cannot extract a number of files from my Hero 3+ Silver / possibly corrupt or hidden!

Your going to want to manually copy the files over to your computer using a USB adapter. Once you have, check the file extensions to make sure they are mp4 and that you have an associated program to play them. If you can't get them to play on your computer try uploading a video to YouTube and/or Vimeo. If they won't play from those sites you'll have to try and see if you can repair the files. Sorry, I don't have any programs to recommend.
