Hi. I have lost an important video from an SD card (Sandisk Extreme 64gb) and I am not too sure how it happened! I was filming a great white shark during a cage dive (amazing) with my GoPro 7 Black (at 2.7k) and I had recorded roughly 40mins of video at that point when all of a sudden the camera shut down (battery died). I tried to turn the camera on right away and it did just enough to show that the 40 min video was not there! It literally vapourised in one go!! :( The SD contains the (shorter) previous videos I had shot but missing completely the 40 minute one (the most important I should add).
In the playback menu of the GoPro 7 there is a "black" space saying "unable to view" which I suppose it is the missing video however when I open the SD card in Windows the video (not playable) is only 85kb which it can't be (it should be a lot bigger, more like 30gb at 2.7k).
I have downloaded some (free) data recovery softwared (recuva and disk drill) and desperate to recover the footage! Any advise please?

When you put the SD card in your pc, how many files are on the card and sizes are they? Your 40 minute video won't be recorded as a single large file, it will be broken up in to several files each about 4GB in size (this is due to "file chaptering").
If there aren't several files viewable, then it's possible that your GoPro wasn't recording but in standby mode or experienced an error.

Thanks for your reply.
The camera was definitely on as I had the back screen on and the red light was showing - there are 4 files in total with the first file being 2.94GB with usable footage and the second one being a small 26kb and being "unreadable". The other two files are not part of the initial cluster as I realised the camera stopped recording and attempted to record two smaller videos at the end.
Somehow the GoPro 7 has truncated the long 40 min video in only two files with the second one being super small and of course not containing any footage :(

Are there any chance of recovering the truncated files? I have used Recuva software but can only see the previously deleted files from another session months ago! Such a shame...I had some awesome stuff on that video
