So, just got the Hero 7 Black. Everything works great, except one thing. I had no problem with setup, no problem connecting to the app, no problems taking or uploading videos. The app automatically updated camera to latest software.
But one major problem. Every time I minimize the app, such as press the home screen button to take a picture with camera - or even if the phone screen goes to sleep - the camera disconnects from the app! it then has to reconnect when I open the phone and reopen the app. Makes it basically impossible to do anything else while filiming like check a map on your phone or use your phone camera, etc.
My camera is bumper mounted, need to control from inside the car. Takes very long to reconnect to app every time I minize the app.
I tried this on both Samsung Galaxy S8 an S5, exact same thing.

The camera and the app maintains its connection up to 8 hours.
Are you getting any error message?
When running other apps, is it using Wi-Fi or mobile data?
See if resetting the connection will help.

The camera will stay connected to the app for 8 hours, as long as the app is open and the screen on my phone doesn't lock. But as soon as I minimize the app, or the phone screen locks - the connection is closed.
I tried on two different Android phones. One is Wi-Fi only (no mobile data plan) the other has both.

If you close the GoPro app and open/launch other apps, the connection will drop but you should still see the Wi-Fi icon next to the camera name in blue.
When you tap on the camera name, it should reconnect.
