Hero7 Black battery life

I have a brand new Hero7Black. Charged batteries in the double charger overnight before first power up.

 

Yesterday, I turned the camera on for the first time, upgraded the firmware, poked around the menus.

 

Since then (24 hours), I have only turned it on to review menu settings and explore. I turned on ProTune, and have it set to 1080P, Linear with 0.5EVComp - everything else is default. 64GB Sandisk Extreme card.

I have not filmed a single minute of video, yet the battery is already down to 25%

 

I have only turned it on to look at settings - I'm very concerned about what I'm going to experience once I start filming! I have two batteries - am I going to need to purchase four?!

Edit: 10 minutes later - with power OFF - and it's down to 23%! WTF?

The simplest solution to this is to fully charge your camera, when it gets to 100%, remove the battery and reinsert the battery.  This prevents a power drain.  However if you start the camera and turn it off again, this will initiate the power drain.

 

You can also perform a manual update of the firmware, this addresses some of the power drain causes:

when features are on like hte screen brightness to 100% that can eat battery, playing through the settings,   adjustl  settings... see if that helps  brightness to 40% screen saver to 1 minute etc...

2 hours since last post - with power OFF, battery drained down to 19%.

 

Why in the world would the battery drain with the device OFF?!

Firmware and software were updated with iPhone app when I first powered up the device.

I've had the unit off and plugged in for a little less than an hour, turned it on to check for any further updates with the iPhone app - appears to be totally up to date.

 

Battery is now charged to 93%. I will let it fully charge, then take it out to play and see what kind of stamina it has.
