I use my GoPro Hero6 Black mounted on my motorcycle handlebar. I use a SanDisk Ultra 256Gb micro SD card, the same card I used in my old Hero5 Black with no problems and is said on your website that while this is the max size card it is okay to use.
Because the battery is only good for about 80min recording time I have a USB port fitted to the bike and run the charging lead in this and can get around 8hrs recording on the card (well I used to on the old Hero5 anyway)
I have the screensaver set to NEVER so I should be able to see what is being recorded while I am riding, and also see the small flashing red dot to tell me it is recording.
I NEVER had a problem with my old Hero5, but the new Hero6 goes completely black after a short time and I don't know if it is actually recording anything (and you can't stop on a motorway to check) when it does this, and once I am able to check it shows 'repairing file' or it keeps showing the 'repairing file' every few minutes then shows what is being seen as I travel then 'repairs file' AGAIN
It has done this from the first day I used it
Personally I think the new Hero6 is a piece of **bleep** compared to my old Hero5, and am seriously thinking of chucking it into the rubbish bin where it belongs and buying another brand.
I have downloaded Quik (which you also recommend to manually apply the latest update) but this doesn't show anything about updating.
I had such good feeling with my old Hero5 but I am getting really frustrated with this piece of junk
Settings currently trying are RES 1080, FPS 50; FOV wide
Language - English UK
Beep Volume - High
LED - all on
QuikCapture - on
Default Mode - Video
Auto Off - Never
Screensaver - Never
Brightness - 100%
Auto Rotation - Auto
GPS - on
Language - English
Video Format - PAL although I originally tried NTSC
HDMI Output - Media

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I go any further

Checking on the recorded files, did the camera continue to record even if at that point the red light has stopped blinking? Or did the recording stop completely?
Here is a list of recommended cards to use with your GoPro.
If you are able to get one, run a manual software update on your camera. Instructions will be listed once you get past the email address and serial number page.
Once completed, please do some test recordings.
Let us know how it goes.

The biggest problem with the list of cards is that while 20 of them will work fine with the Hero5 only 6 say they will work with the Hero6.
You'd think this would have been the other way around. Also the manual states the Hero6 can handle a card of up to 256Gb yet the biggest one on the list is 128Gb.
I started with a 16Gb on my old Hero5 but like the battery you have to get the whole group of riders to stop every hour just so one person can change a battery and SD card, NOT really helpful on a long ride. So I upgraded to a 32Gb then a 64Gb and finally to the 256Gb SD card (but these are quite expensive) and with the USB port on the bike I can keep the battery charged and record a ride one way on one SD card which I then change when we get to our destination so I have empty card for the return ride. In the summer we can be out for up to 13 hrs so this was really good BUT as I keep saying the old Hero5 is a far superior camera for this type of use. If it wasn't for the cost of the Hero6 I would buy another Hero5 but I can't afford to have both
If someone can suggest a 256Gb card that will work with the Hero6 I would really appreciate it
Oh just going through some of the footage you were asking there are some big gaps in the recordings (obviously where it was trying to repair the file) of up to 5 minutes with the longest of probably 30 minutes of not recording at all. The other thing I find is where the Hero5 you could give a single press on the record button even while wearing bike gloves and it would start recording straight away. The Hero6 I have to press the button before I put on my gloves or it won't do anything. I haven't tried voice activation as I only have 2 channels I can use on my intercom headset and they are used for my phone and my gps unit.

Thanks for getting back to us. Referring on the list, for the HERO6 Black you may use: SanDisk Extreme/Extreme Plus/Extreme Pro UHS Video Speed Class 30 (V30), it indicates that it can be greater than or equal to 32gb.
Regarding the files, this may mean that the reason why the LED light is no longer blinking is because the recording has stopped completely.
As suggested, see if a manual software update sorts out the issue.
Let us know how it goes.

Okay, so here's my dilema, the following is the excerpt from the Hero6 Owners Manual regarding MicroSD cards, and this is part of what sold me on upgrading to it
Nowhere is it mentioned that you can only use speed class 30(V30) up to only 32gb
Below here are the specs on the SanDisk card that as I have said worked perfectly in the Hero5, which also according to the above should work in the Hero6, BUT THEN they say go onto the website where the manual is contradicted. So therefore the manual is FALSE ADVERTISING
I know some of you are going to spout on that it says it is for an android smartphone or tablet but it meets all of the requirements for the GoPro6 Black AND AGAIN I got a full 8 hours NON-STOP recording with it in the Hero5.
Aren't better upgraded/updated models supposed to operate better.
Not with this product
So according to GoPro's Owners Manual specs there is NO reason for it to function as it does.
I would very much wish to be able to return the camera for a full refund and buy another Hero5 in it's place, or have GoPro exchange it for a Hero5, but I hardly think GoPro will agree to this even though what they say is rubbish.
I can't get much more disappointed in a product that is supposed to be the Market Leader in Adventure Cameras so much BS
