Terrible exposure for this camera to be used while diving. Not reasonable solution to have to reactivate the screen by pushing a button. Seems like a simple coding solution that can be rushed out. And I would love to understand how an app helps while diving.
I am piling on so I can get a response with the rest of us. Diving in Belize now, wish I had researched this limitation before.

Add me to the list of unhappy Hero6 Black users. When filming underwater having the screen go black or dim after 60 seconds is unuseable. Having to click a button is impossible in some situations. A user option to allow the screen to stay on until the end of the recording session is needed.

Add me to the list. I just got my first Gopro, spent a ton of money on the underwater housing, lights, and everything else for the underwater setup and on my first dive, the screen goes blank after 60 seconds (yes, it's technically just 'dim' but underwater it appears black). You basically have to shoot your video blind and hope that you're capturing what you're trying to get video of.
Pressing the 'mode' button every 55 seconds is not a solution--the amount of pressure you need to apply inevitably shakes the entire setup and ruins the video.
And if you're trying to troubleshoot a sensor malfunction due to pressure differences, don't bother--the pressure inside an underwater housing is exactly the same as on the surface--1 atmosphere.
