well, they're advertising night photo feature and i bought the camera because of this.
their hardware is nice, but the overall software quality of gopro products is really the worst i've seen in this segment for a long time.
it's just a big disappointment to pay so much money for such a crap.. sorry to say so.
worst thing is, that nobody of gopro staff seems to care.

i just had a phone call with their support desk:
- at the moment there's no fix for it
- official statement: they're working on a fix and have to reprogram a lot to get it running.
anyway, call your local support guys and state the importance of it. we're waiting over half a year right now..

In video I can manually set the shutter. For example 1080/30 the shutter options are, 1/30, 1/60, 1/120
In night photo I can set the shutter to Auto, 2 Sec, & 5 Sec.
Everything is as advertised and as described in the manual.

well I found the main topic related to this problem: https://community.gopro.com/t5/Cameras/Shutter-Speed-changing-to-longer-than-5-sec/td-p/16363/highli...
shortened: it was supported in the beginning (which is documented in old manuals) and was eliminated out of the firmware in later versions. gopro is just foolin their customers..
in the long run gopro wont be successfull with this kind of policies

The Hero5 Session has NEVER had more than 5 Second shutter speed and most likely never will due to the processor and design of the camera. In the discussion linked above several people who posted insisted that there were misleading sections of the manual; however, it was explained and pointed out that the point of confusion was due to GoPro using a table describing scenarios where different shutter speeds could be used. The manual clearly stated then, as it does now, that the only shutter speeds available for night photo are 2 and 5 seconds.
On Novermeber 2nd, 2016 I wrote concerning the Original Manual:
The manual actually does not say that Hero5 Session does shutter speed greater than 5 second, but it is very misleading. On page 51 of the manual it says to, "Use this table to help you select the most appropriate setting for your activity:". It then guess on to show a table with Settings and a corresponding Example. This is the same table that is used on page 61 of the Hero5 Black.
Because 20 sec and 30 sec are listed, it gets inferred that the camera has these settings available. However, on page 45 it does only show auto and 2 second, 5 seconds as being available for the Hero5 Session.
The table is for reference for when to select the best settings. It could have also included 45 seconds but that doesn't mean it's an available setting. The limitation of 2 & 5 seconds is stated as the available settings before the table is presented.
