Hero5 and photography

Hi, I've been waiting for upgrade to my H3+B. H5 did great with RAW, and reduced shutter lag. No more overcompressed JPG's.

Well, at least in a single photo mode ;] Maybe processing speed will not allow it in other modes, but i'm sure at certain times timelapse could go with RAW no problems.

However in some parts it is a major downgrade.

Shame that GoPro people decided, that rear LCD is a must, not an option. Even when You don 't use it.. As it cannot be switched off, each photo turns on the LCD draining the battery for 1 minute, and there's nothing to do about it... Unfortunately this means, that on one battery it's able to take about 100 photos (LCD set to 10%). I'm sure it would be much less with wireless on. It should have an option to be operated just like regular gopro for use with remote, when rear LCD is not only irrelevant, but draining the battery for nothing.

Why is that? We have two buttons and front LCD, so there is no reason to leave option of using the camera just like previous black models. It's only one menu option and makes a huge difference. Battery life is one reason, glowing camera is the other, so stealth mode is not there.

Also I have no idea why to allow setiing the shutter speed in video, but not in photo mode ;]

That's just some premilinary observations, without extensive use.

Cheers!

Re: Hero5 and photography

Hi @glogowski

I can confirm that the touch screen does NOT have an option to be turned off all the time, but locking shutter speed IS now an option in photo mode as well RAW photos in time lapse mode.

Hope that helps!

Hello, just bumping and asking if someone from GoPro team could say if those issues are on the table to fix, or considered irrelevant.

Thanks for the feedback @glogowski. Unfortunately, we can't confirm what is being worked on, but we have shared similar feedback to our teams in the past.

Re: Hero5 and photography

Thanks. I've read the release notes - seems promising. Could someone on 2.0 please let me know if there are any changes regarding keeping rear LCD off all the time? I returned H5 as soon as i tested that it'won't work as i need, so I'm not able to check it now.
Cheers.
