Well when I was on GoPro support (not really my preferred way to fix the problem as it took like 2 hours and we didn’t get anywhere) they said it could be that the phone is not compatible but your phone looks like it’s new enough so idk

Folks, my set up - Samsung Galaxy s7 edge, Hero5 Session (now with v02.51 firmware) and the latest GoPro App - isn't working...

The same set up worked perfectly till you upgraded/updated/retired the firmware and/or GoPro/Capture/Quick apps.

Something isn't agreeing with the s7 edge.

This means I get a totally unreliable experience that's ****ing with my video documenting, the opposite experienece of what the **bleep** GoPro camera is meant to deliver.

Once again...

The GoPro App loses control of the Session - can't delete media, can't power the camera up or down, cam't find media - after a successful pairing where things initially work.

Like I said, this guy on YouTube (link below) describes the exact same symptoms, except a year ago!

I can't accept that I have to downgrade the firmware or (no offence supervista4575) purchase a new micro SD with exactly the same specs as the micro SD currently in my camera...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the SD card - I had already bought a second SD card which was a SANDISK Extreme (not a Pro admittedly) but was guaranteed by the photoshop I bought it from to be suitable for use with the GoPro and their recommended SD card.

 

It made no difference to my connectivity issues between by smartphone (Google Pixel 2 running Android) and my camera.

 

To add insult to injury, I had subscribed to the Cloud service and that can’t connect ever from my phone - it is messing up the connection strings trying to connect via the internet - from what I can see

 

Personally, I believe the root cause of the problems are the GoPro Capture App not the camera or cards used

 

Very frustrating, but thanks for trying to help the rest of us!

I am with Trading8s - this is frustrating as hell

 

See my other posts for details of the problem ... in summary

 

1) I have tried two different SANDISK SD micro cards - both verified as recommended spec for GoPro Hero 5 Session 

2) I have Factory Reset my camera twice 

3) I am on the latest firmware and software updates of both camera and GoPro App

4) My camera is very new - 3 months old

5) My smartphone is also very new - Google Pixel 2 Android 8.1.0

 

The problem is consistent and not intermittent, so this cannot be hard for tech support to replicate and fix PLEASE

 

I believe the issue is with the GoPro software app 

 

The problem manifests itself in two ways I think ( although may not be same problem, I suspect it is)

 

1) You can pair the camera and smartphone - but the connection drops out after 30 seconds, or after one upload of media from the camera to the phone (Local media in GoPro app)

 

To re-establish the pairing, I do not have to factory reset but I do have to completely wipe out all knowledge of the previous Bluetooth connection on both devices (forget connection) and start as if it were a brand new connection

 

2) I cannot get the smartphone to establish a successful connection to GoPro Plus which I have subscribed to - the screen has the GoPro spinning wheel and never returns an error message or the error message says ‘No Internet’. Checking the smartphone settings, I can see that the phone WIFI setting has been set to the camera as a WIFI network but with the status of ‘connected, no internet’

 

I have tried setting the phone WIFI network back to the functional WIFI network with internet connectivity and going back into the GoPro app to click on CLoud - but this also just spins and fails.

 

The upshot is my media is stuck on my phone and I cannot transfer to the CLoud

 

I have had the get the media off by a very long winded route of downloading painfully to my Google Cloud - so I am not using GoPro Plus

The whole point of buying it was to protect by photos and videos whilst out and about in case I had a SD Card error (which I have already had one of)

 

This is very frustrating

I decided to explore the micro SD angle a little, and here's what I did to restore GoPro App control of my phone...

 

1. Manually save everything on your micro SD to a hard or portable drive 

 

Stick it in an adapter, slot it into your machine (I'm on Mac), open the volume and then drag and drop the contents to a safe place.

2. Reformat your micro SD...

 

If you're on a Mac, use this link; on a PC, use this link.

 

3. Put the latest GoPro camera firmware on it...

 

You can find the right update here with instructions. (Don't move the UPDATE.zip onto your micro SD: just the UPDATE folder, hey.)

 

4. Stick your micro SD back into your camera

 

5. Delete your camera from your GoPro app, and reinstall..

 

6. Reset the wifi on your camera and reconnect it (don't worry about Bluetooth or Wifi on your phone) 

 

7. Now try taking a photos and shooting a few videos, then delete them - no more spinning circles...

 

8. Control restored (though I have yet to take it out for a day to be sure)

7. Once connected, take a few photos/vids via the app, then try deleting them in app - no more spinning circles, right?

 

(Note it took a mo for the app to replay my vids - so be patient if they don't play...)

 

8. Control restored! (Though I have yet to take it out for a day to be sure...)
