Mine is a SanDisk. I'd find it pretty hard to believe that it's the memory card, since there completely solid state, nothing chemical or mechanical. Could be the battery, as you say, but except for the on/off problem, I hadn't had any (unexpected) issues with cold weather battery life.

I have had the issue of not the camera turning off, but getting a "SD Card Error" when it is cold. My hero 4 never did this. Im shooting at 1080 60 and not sure how to correct the problem.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but surely if it was a micro SD card issue you would see the displays etc on the camera but get a "No SD card message". I have the 5 Session and was getting total shutdown at something above -5°c whilst skiing, so 23F. Basically unusable entire morning - it was fully charged already, but extra charging from a powerpack seemed to bring it back to life after 15 mins in indoor warmth.
Understand it might not function in "extreme cold" but would have thought given "winter sports" are a major sell for GoPro handling -5c / 23F shouldn't be such a challenge for it.
New to GoPro, but having a bit of a love hate experience so far - nothing worse than unreliable tech!
