Hero4 not turning on

Hello,

My GoPro Hero4 stopped working  after charging it. Both the battery and the camera got super hot and after that I have been unable to swich it on again. I tried with a new battery as I thought the problem was there, but it did not work either. I have been reading some foros and maybe it has something to do with a short-circuit? I’m afraid that the reparation, if possible, won’t be worth it...

Thank you!

Re: Hero4 not turning on

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your camera.  Here are some things you can try:

  • GoPro official trouble shooting steps HERO4-Camera-Will-Not-Power-On
    • Please disconnect any BacPac accessories or cables from the camera and also remove the camera's battery and microSD card. Then, follow these troubleshooting steps:
    • Please reinsert the battery into the camera, then use the GoPro USB cable to connect your camera to a USB port directly on your computer or to a USB wall charger that outputs 5V and 1A.
    • Once connected to a charging source, you should see a red LED light up on the front of your camera within no more than a couple of minutes. If you do not see a red LED illuminate on the front of your camera within 1-2 minutes, please try using a different USB cable and USB port or charger.
    • Once you have the front red LED lit up, firmly press and release the Power button, and camera should power ON. If you cannot get the camera to power ON with this battery, please try using another battery for this test if you happen to have one available to you.
    • If your camera powers ON with a different battery, then it's likely that your other battery is very low on charge, or has perhaps reached the end of its life. Follow step #6 for charging the battery that was able to power the camera ON.
    • If do not have a secondary battery to try, please remove the battery in the camera and then connect the unit to your charging source (USB port directly on your computer, or 5V 1A wall charger). Although the red LED will not illuminate, try pressing the Power Button to see if the camera is able to power on.
    • Disconnect your camera from the USB cable and remove the battery (if present), then reinsert the battery into your camera once more, then follow our recommended charging procedure.
  • Attempt to perform a Manual Update https://gopro.com/update/hero4 (You will need a computer and USB/SD adapter)

    • Download the Manual update to your computer
    • Extract the UPDATE folder onto your computer
    • Remove the battery and SD card from your camera
    • Using an adapter, insert the card into your computer
    • Perform a FULL (not quick) format of the SD card
    • Copy the UPDATE folder (not Update.zip) onto the formatted SD card
    • Eject the SD card and set to the side
    • Press and hold the top Shutter button
    • Insert the camera battery while still holding down the top shutter
    • Press the Mode/Power button for ~1 second
    • If the camera powers on, release the Shutter and power off
    • Insert the SD card and power on the camera
    • Allow the manual update to complete
      • If the camera does not power on:
        • Remove the battery and SD card,

        • connect to a USB power supply

        •

Press and hold the POWER/MODE button for 8s

        • Insert SD card
        • Attempt to power on
    • If you still are not getting a response from the camera, contact the GoPro Support Team https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs
  • The final thing to try, AFTER doing all of the above (including contacting the GoPro Support Team)
    • Remove the battery and SD card
    • Wrap the camera in paper towels
    • Place the camera in a sealed bag
    • Place the bag with camera in the freezer for ~2 hours
    • Remove the camera and insert the battery
    • Power on
