I am writing this after coming back from several years of forgetting about my defective GoPro Hero3 Black. Now several years later, I have come across my GoPro camera and I wonder what it is like to have actually been able to use it on so many trips since then... Spain, Portugal, Poland, Mexico...
The GoPro device I purchased has worked for a total of 3, maybe 4 times. After calling in to Go Pro Customer support, and several times, at that, I was never given the opportunity to send in my device, check it, analyze it, see if something could be wrong, but instead was offered 20% to my next purchase of a GoPro camera. I honestly thought GoPro would be able to help, with the reputation and successes they have had over the years.
The camera turns on, freezes, and that's pretty much it. I was able to record a few videos in my room once or twice, but not really what I had intended to use it for.
And today, I wonder if GoPro will do the right thing after all and offer to let me send my camera in exchange for a functioning unit of equal value or if the camera will continue to remain a sunk cost and a really expensive paper-weight.
Really hoping it's not the latter.

Also, please check that the SD card you're using is compatible with your camera. A list of cards that should work is at https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations. If you have another card from this list that you can try, please do. That will help determine if the SD card is part of the issue or not.

Thanks for replying to my post. I forgot to mention in my post that I had followed the steps as recommended by several GoPro agents; updating the FW and using the SanDisk Extreme SD Card.
The hero3 Black device does not respond to any of these changes and requires a battery reinsert to try anything different.
