Hero+ won't turn on, red light not lighting up when charging

I would contact support chat, but I'm at work and won't be home until past their listed hours.

I've had my Hero+ for about a year (can find the exact date when I'm at home). Everything was going fine, but earlier today when I had it plugged into the USB port of my computer to transfer files, I received a message on my computer "the specified file can't be located." I checked my GoPro and noticed that the display on the front (that normally shows the USB connection is active) had powered down. I tried to power the GoPro back on and had no response.

I've tried holding the button for more than 10 seconds, but there is no response. Also, when I plug the USB into the wall charger, the red light (that normally indicates it's charging) does not light up.

What can I try next? I was in the middle of recording a video and need to get back to it ASAP.

Re: Hero+ won't turn on, red light not lighting up when charging

Hi @boldcave4266,

If you have not already give these steps a try:

Remove the camera's microSD card and disconnect any USB cable that might be attached to the camera.

Then, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Please press and hold the Power/Mode button on the front of the camera for about 10 seconds, then release it.  This acts as a rest and in most cases, this makes your camera power ON again if the battery has a charge.
  2. If the camera doesn't power ON, let's try charging the battery.  Please use the supplied GoPro USB cable to connect your camera to a USB port directly on your computer or to a USB wall charger that outputs 5V and 1A.  Once it's connected, you should see a red LED light up on the front of your camera within no more than a couple of minutes.  If you do not see a red LED illuminate on the front of your camera, please try pressing and holding the Power/Mode button for 10 seconds while it is still connected to the USB cable.  If the camera still doesn't power ON, please try these same steps using a different USB cable and USB port or charger.
  3. When the camera is connected to the USB cable and USB port or charger, you should see the red LED light up on the front of the camera.  This indicates that your camera is charging the battery.  With the front red LED lit up, your camera should reach a full charge in 2 hours if connected to a wall charger that outputs 5V and 1A.  If connected to your computer's USB port, it may take up to 4 hours to reach a full charge.  Once the red LED shuts off, your camera's battery has reached a full charge

Hopefully that gets you back up and running!

Cheers,

Ryan

Well, I don't really understand what happened, but this is what ended up solving the problem: taking out the SD card and then powering it on with the SD card out. After that, I could reinsert the SD and the camera worked normally from that point forward.
