Hero 9 Timelapse Auto Flashing Glitch

[ New ]

Hi, I've done a few timelapses/nightlapses at this point and they've mostly gone as expected then today this happened: https://streamable.com/c74p6b

It was running fine for about 10 minutes, then I went under a bridge where it was darker, then after that it just flickers rapidly between underexposed, correctly exposed and overexposed and it does that for the rest of the time lapse making it useless.

It was on night lapse mode, -0.5 exposure comp, auto interval, auto shutter speed, ISO 100/100 and flat settings. Set to output a video, not photos/raws. It was secured with a suction mount inside the car so no movement other than the car driving.
I've recently manually flashed the latest update as well (it fixed a lot of my touchscreen bugs). I did another one the same evening a bit later when it was darker and it behaved normally.

How can I avoid it ruining timelapses in the future? Is this a known bug?

Hello @trailofsevens. This is an unusual behavior of the camera. If this has something to do with the firmware, reinstalling the firmware update of the camera can also help correct any errors with the current software installation. Using an SD card adapter, connect your microSD card to your computer and follow the Manual Update instructions specified in this article: https://community.gopro.com/t5/en/How-to-Update-GoPro-Cameras/ta-p/394229

Additionally, performing a factory reset in the camera may help.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi aenriquez,
Thanks for the reply. I recently manually installed the update (a few days before doing this timelapse) and it fixed my touchscreen issues in a major way (previously almost impossible to use) so I'm a little apprehensive to do another manual update in case it messes up my touchscreen again? Plus having to redo all my settings/profiles. Or do you think doing another manual update is likely to fix this, but keep the touchscreen behaving normally?

The same thing happened again twice today though (same settings as before), so 3/4 times so far. First one today happened under the same bridge, the second one seemed to be caused by going under some trees. Both dark areas and it seems to completely confuse the exposure metering so it goes in a pattern:
