Re: Hero 8 keeps turning itself on

[ New ]
I just bought a hero 8 and it keeps turning on after I turn it off. The WiFi, Bluetooth and voice controls are all off. It has the 1.60 firmware. Any suggestions?

Same problem here...

As for the topic with the hero 8 camera freeze while charging, we do not see any input from GoPro technical expert...

is it another firmware related bug? Are you working on a fix?
Is it a hardware problem? Will the camera be replaced?
my GoPro is brand new... this is unbelievable.

Hello, @adanm87672 and @swifthero85870. If you haven't yet, we recommend doing a manual firmware update and a factory reset.

Your camera may already have the latest firmware, but updating manually will help get rid of any possible error with the current installation. The steps below will guide you through the process.

  1. Go to the Update page and choose your HERO8 camera.
  2. Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
  3. Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
  4. Click "Download Update."
  5. Click "Click here to download firmware."
  6. Follow the steps on the screen for detailed instructions for your operating system.

Make sure that the camera battery is charged fully and the SD card used is formatted and a recommended one

After the update, please perform a factory reset. Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Re: Hero 8 keeps turning itself on

I've discovered now that manually updating the camera does absolutely NOTHING and does not improve Hero 8's performance at all. HOWEVER, just disabling voice controls and wireless connections DOES work. When I've disabled wireless connections (voice commands are always off on my camera to save battery) I haven't run into any problems with it turning itself on. I have accidentally left wireless connections on once and, lo and behold, the camera turned itself on multiple times and drained the battery. As long as you turn off wireless connections when you're done using them, you should be perfectly fine. It's a bit of a pain to do though, and should still be addressed by GoPro. Hope that helps.

Re: Hero 8 keeps turning itself on

For me the issue seems to be whenever its plugged in and charging. It keeps turning back on every few minutes.

So far when its unplugged i havent observed this. I have already Connections and Voice Command off.

Really dissapointed once again. My Hero 7 started getting water inside the SD card compartment and now my 8 has this nice "feature" which will definetely let me without battery when i need it. Its a nice camera but i cant udnerstand how can this be an issue for more than a year now and there is not official fix or explanation... I would expect that from a company who specialises in just one product.
