[ New ]You can take hte battery out and use a usb cable that is the only way today to get unlimited power. camera will record with internal battery, and charge only on standby. Maybe that is gopros next advantage to have on the Hero 8

[ New ]Hello @grantb72. You got it right. For extended recordings, the camera can be connected to an external power source. Caution must be taken for such a setup though as it leaves the charging port exposed to dust, dirt, and water.

You should be able to see the live view while the camera is recording.
If the screen goes out, simply tap on the LCD screen.
