I have a Hero 7 White that I got as a Christmas gift. I had a lot of issues with it out of the box. I first tried to Return it but missed the return date. I really got the run around from GoPro tech support for a while too. So this hasn’t been a fun experience. In the tech support process I learned and I understand the camera currently does not have the so called Linear Mode (Funny side note the tech support thought this was a malfunctioning as well). I never could get it to work to what I would consider an acceptable level. However this is on me as I stopped working on solutions as wide angle photos and especially videos make my head spin and make me feel sick when viewing. I have had vertigo for a few years. During my initial trouble shooting exercisebut after learning of no normal photo view I had asked GoPro if there was an update in the works to add linear mode. The reply I got was yes. I followed up and got a reply “We hear your concerns. We’re working on an update that should correct the issue.” I reached out a few months ago on Facebook messenger and they advised. “this is a known issue and we are working on a fix.” I have tried some phone apps on the photos but with the apps I cant make them look “normal.” There is still a distortion. Honestly I have no interest in photo editing so I will not buy or subscribe to an elaborate computer program/service. I just want to take snapshots and family type videos. I don’t do any action sports.
Looking at the update page I see linear was added to the Hero 4 Black & Silver on Oct 21, 2016. This is 2 years after it’s release. I have limited experience with GoPro. Am I just getting some automatic reply to my questions to placate me or does anyone think there is an update in the works to add linear? I initially asked in February.
i am asking because I want to know if I should move on or try to work through the other issues in anticipation of the so called fix. My wife got it for me and she noticed that I never use it. So I need to figure something out to get some use out of this.
Some of the Other issues are:
poor picture/video quality
files not transfer into to Mobile device or pc via the apps.
Freesing and not responding
very slow (4 Mississippi count) before photo is taken or video starts after pressing the shutter button.
any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out. The HERO7 White is a simplified version, yet built tough and waterproof — just grab it and go for it. For more information, you can check this article at https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/introducing-hero7 that explains the features of HERO7 cameras.
At this time, Linear FOV isn't available on HERO7 White camera. We do not have any new information yet if and when this feature will be included in the next updates. As a workaround, if you want to minimize the barrel distortion, you can check the video editing applications suggested in this article that may also have the lens correction feature included: https://gopro.com/help/articles/how_to/Programs-to-View-and-Edit-Videos
As for the freezing issue in a camera, this is usually an indicator that the camera's software needs to be updated or there is potentially an issue with the microSD being used. You can try the suggested troubleshooting steps indicated here: https://gopro.com/help/articles/solutions_troubleshooting/Camera-Freezes-Up
Additionally, to consistently achieve the best results with your GoPro camera, it is important to select microSD cards that are known to work well with the model you have. Check this article to see our list of the most up-to-date GoPro recommended microSD cards. We recommend only purchasing name brand SD cards through official resellers.
Lastly, reinstalling the firmware update of the camera can help correct any errors with the current software installation. Follow the manual update instructions specified in this article: https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/How-to-Update-GoPro-Cameras
